Covert narcissists

Why do people become like this? They seem to be loners that act fake and manipulate everyone.

I don't think narcissism is real.

They're just people above you, operating on a higher plane, that do not want anything to do with you outside of some miniscule task.

So you call them stuck up or narcissistic when in reality they're pretty normal, just ahead of you in the dominance hierarchy.

They might entertain you for a bit to get something from you, but won't shed a tear if they never hear from you again.

"Covert" narcissists are just the ones who try to be a little nicer about it.

You literally just described NPD in your post and said it doesn't exist lol

Exploitation and lack of empathy are common NPD traits

But that's only towards people who don't matter to you personally.

Like when you meet a sloot single mom who makes your dick hard. You might go out of your way for a night or two to bang her, but then you'll never want to see her again. Some girls, who's lives are a train wreck are only worth a pump n dump. She'll call you a narcissist.

Then you meet a hot ex-cheerleader, no kids, never married who runs her own company.

You'd give her a kidney if she asked. You bang her a couple times and are so far up her ass she can't stand being around you anymore and you think she's a narcissist. No, she's just out of your league.

Narcissism doesn't really exist, it's a cope people lower on the dominance hierarchy use to not feel like a loser.

A lot of covert narcissism comes from family homes where the parents act like their kids are perfect and can do no wrong, but are emotionally uninvolved with them and unavailable. They also tend to come from more status-obsessed homes. Basically, the kids are told their special and above other kids despite them knowing deep down their parents don't give a flying fuk about them.

This ends up playing out socially when they act or feel entitled to friends, without putting themselves out there. Throw in a culture of participation trophies plus the victimization Olympics, and social media where everyone can be a "legend in their own minds" and we've got the prefect recipe for such person in today's world.

Yup, it's definitely something that starts from a young age, as you said, kids growing up being told they're a special snowflake, normalizing a status obsessed and emotionally distanced mindset. Social media has made it easier than ever for people to live in their own little self-obsessed worlds.

Because I realize there are levels of reality and we're not all operating on the same plane?

If you see some people as narcissists you probably just need to level up in life.

My own little world, because societies don't self segregate.

People generally don't want to be around people they consider beneath them. It's why phrases like the wrong side of the tracks exist.

Actually, they're the most dangerous ones.

With classical overt narcissists, with them, at least they're WYSIWYG. And they're more fun, although at a price.

They are distant af and practice manipulation and disregard. Thing is idk how people can function like this. I mean i can see being reticent or introverted but this is taking it to a different level when you have to manipulate and disregard people 24/7. Just seems weird to me.

India has a caste system where an entire segment of the population is considered untouchable. I guess all Indians are narcissists unless they are in that caste? Gypsies, dirty hippies, rentcels, single moms.

Cry in your cornflakes all you want, social hierarchies exist.

Just because some people are further up the ladder than you doesn't mean anything is wrong with their personality. It's only from your perspective because you can't imagine why they aren't treating you like you matter.

No. Sorry. Narcissism is real. Covert Malignant Narcissism is even more real. All you have to do is get hurt by one or two and you will "get it". They're NOT interested in working on relationships. They're NOT interested in compromise. As soon as they somehow detect that you are onto them or might soon be, they will try to get rid of you ASAP. They won't try to change, they won't try to be honest, they won't try to work things out. It will be scorch and burn, bash, headgames, whatever it is to get rid of you or destroy you because they view you as a threat to their existence, because they think that deep down, you're exactly like them. They hold zero actual humility towards "Civilization".

Sam Vaknin, both a diagnosed and self-professed Narcissist has written some of the most insightful articles/books about it. Years ago, when I was dealing with the pain I experienced from dealing with a person whose behavior I still think was Malignantly Narcissistic, I found his readings and started going through them and they made a TON of sense. He somehow "got" himself and was able to translate his mind to "common" people. The following is a link that serves as a directory to excerpts of a number of his works. They're on Project Gutenberg, which is a credible repository.https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/2702It's linked-to from his Wikipedia bio page.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_VakninI would especially recommend one of the links, on the Gutenberg site, entitled "Malignant Self Love".

You just don't.
Not everyone has a selfish outlook on life.

How can a man be respected in his community if he only cares for himself?

As for India, what we know as the caste system today is mostly a product of British colonization.

The economic elite of society is sequestered into their own bubble, when you are an adult you choose how you live.

If you are living in luxury and privilege while others live in poverty and hunger, what does that say of your character?

It's one thing to be born into a certain circumstance, but when you become a man you make a choice in your character.

I don't envy the rich man, I don't hate rich people either, but I know the world is corrupt and that power corrupts.

Nothing built by man lasts forever, no political or economic structure or great work or anything made of our hands.

When the time comes for corrupt authority to answer for its crimes, I will not be afraid of repercussions.

It is more important to have a clean conscience than to dominate others, because death comes for all.

So many people who have never been particularly religious during most of their lives start to get into it a lot more in their 70s. I've listened to a number of them. Some of them say that it's a surprising natural development of how they'd been thinking their whole lives - and that they are surprised that they find themselves becoming more religious. There may also be a fear factor with some of them because...what if all this religion stuff that they haven't paid much attention to most of their lives is actualy real? Well, maybe they're finding a way to "get right with their creator" before they go to meet him/her. Christopher Marlowe would certainly support that sort of endeavor, as would a number of other people. You can't get through this life without having done a thing or two of questionable ethics. You just can't.

Interesting take, but you're dead wrong.

Narcs actually operate on a lower plane rooted in deep seated self hate.

All of their grandiosity is a carefully crafted mask to hide that fact.

If you see some people as narcissists you probably just need to level up in life.
I’m with you here. The word narcissist never enters my mind. There’s douchebags and losers but idgaf about pretend psychology that’s just to make people feel better. I know therapists who are absolutely fukd in the head. Wtf kind of advice or diagnosis are they good for?

That there are crappy therapists out there doesn't negate that the body of knowledge that the field of psychology and psychiatry have produced has a lot of truth to it. Some therapists may not have a good handle on themselves or they may not be very ethical. That doesn't mean that Freud, Jung, et. al. were imbeciles bandying about SAT words.

Narcissism in its most simple terms is when a person is in love with their reflection - or how the world respond to them.

That is actually the old greek mythology tale about narcissism, the man who fell in love with his own reflection in the water and drowned.

The Greeks, and other old civilizations, already had a ton of stuff figured out that most people still just don't get. I started waking up to this only within the last few years, and I'm nearly 50.
