But if he went in there guns blazing right now and turned it into some crazy right wing echochamber with no censorship whatsoever, it will push everyone away and he'll lose his money and the mission will be completely lost.

Right now, society is in a place where the Left Wing socialists have a significant voice in public affairs, and much of this is because of Twitter promoting these voices. He needs to keep the current policies in place and make the other reforms first so it isn't a bunch of bots promoting all this crazy left wing nonsense. Remember, it's a private company now so he doesn't have to disclose what he's doing in the background to the users. But he said the code will eventually be open source, so everyone will eventually be able to do it.

Remember, the Tech industry is currently in the process of being drained of its excess resources. The type of people who sit around saying crazy left wing things on the internet will likely have to work a bit harder in the future, and will not be able to sit around earning $300k to work 5 hours per week. This is the type of problem that will sort itself out.

None of this is bad. Elon is appeasing the crowds, and I am truly excited that he owns the platform. He won't let them be hard left biased like they always have been.

He still needs to say this stuff, and honestly, he should. There should be some level of moderation against hate speech. That's never been the issue, the issue has been glossing over it when it's from a liberal but being hard on rules when it's a conservative.

Apply the rules fairly, don't be biased, that's what people want. I'm so happy he owns it now.

The whole problem with labeling hate speech is that you can start labeling everything you want and use it as an excuse to censor it. Is the misc 13/50 thing or astronaut thing hate speech? On the old twitter it was definitely considered that even though it's based on true stats and it describes real existing problems.

What I think you need is:

1. A smart decision maker who knows what should be labelled hate speech and what isn't. No, I don't think 13/50 qualifies, that's just referencing actual statistics. Something like "I hate people with XYZ race because of XYZ behavior", yeah, that would be. Obviously it's tough to be smart about it.

2. Maybe even more important, whatever you decide on, it has to be implemented fairly, and not just against one side.



I think he'll do pretty good at #1, and I think he'll do even better at #2.
