Been wanting to play another open world RPG. Tried Dragon Age Inquisition, but it wasn't great.

The GOAT is the Horizon series. Horizon Zero Dawn is on PC. The sequel, Forbidden West, came out on ps5 this year.

Odyssey or Valhalla, I liked Odyssey better. Both have some annoying parts but Odyssey had much less of them.

Play Morrowind and Oblivion with mods. Dragon's Dogma is fun for some time.

Yeah Dragon Age was lame. Nothing i've played is like Skyrim though. Some games are similar to Witcher but not as fun. There was an old game on Ps2 called Summoner that was like The Witcher.

Ayy this was cheap on psn recently and considered it. I remember playing the first game on PC long ago and it honestly wasn't bad, besides the combat.

Never played the sequel but I sorta figured it might be too old by now. Maybe I should look into it better....

The sequel completely murders the first game IMO. The first was a bit more limited and jank. Solid 7/10 for me, carried only by the nemesis system. This one was 10/10 all the way through. People slept on it mostly due to how they did the loot box system (the backlash was so bad at launch that they removed it and the microtransactions from the game completely). It came out in 2017 and has aged fantastic IMO

The second one has waaaay more emergent gameplay elements. The 9 different orc tribes are all unique (occult magic focused tribe, necromancers, machine body augmentation tribe, fear tribe that relies on brutality to terrify foes, etc...) and there are hundreds of insane modifiers that could randomly spawn on any random orc with the Nemesis System. You have to strategically take out the opposing armies (each map has a dominant Warlord Orc that has his loyal captains and underlings, and these guys spawn with raunchier modifiers). The nemesis system is dope in that if some random fodder Orc kills you, he upgrades into stronger form. I've had random fodder level up and kill me enough that they ended up warlords in charge of the region. Orcs don't always die when you kill them either. If you immolate one, he could come back stronger for revenge covered completely in burns with a bag over his head. If you behead one, he could come back with his neck bolted on to his torso. They all have super unique personalities too (tons of creative orcs; I had this one retard who never said a word and just giggled in my face every time we clashed for example, funny little idiot).

You also get to recruit orcs into your own opposing army and level them up by sending them on assassination/sabotage missions (that actually impact your moment to moment gameplay) or by entering them into the fighting pit. You could at any moment get betrayed by an more greedy orc and stabbed in the back, but you could punish and shame them so bad once you hunt them down that they get knocked to level 1 and lose their minds. You could also take summon orcs to back you up in a fight, or sacrifice your orcs for health (some orcs have relationships though; if you kill one that has a brother, don't be surprised when the brother stabs you in the back).

There's also a lot more to do gameplay wise like getting mounts (ground and flying), taming monsters to fight with you, (etc...), and side quests with movie characters like Gollum and Shelob.

If you have your old save file for Shadow of Mordor on the same console side (if you played on PS3 and are about to play on PS4/5, for example), you can transfer your nemesis from that original game into this one so he can come back and hunt you throughout the different maps.

If you do decide to give it a go, my only advice is to play on a slightly harder difficulty. The nemesis system shines most when orcs can actually have a chance of killing you vs you just dominating throughout the game. Stories develop more naturally that way

Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is the greatest open world game ever made. Not for casuals though like sonycels.

Well there's Mass Effect LE - 59% discount on Steam until 11th Nov, Cyberpunk, maybe Greedfall. Had tons of fun with AC Odyssey, it's a - very - watered down great value TW3. Dragon Age: Origins was great on release, not sure how it holds up today.Didn't play SoM so no comparison, but SoW was really good, I have honestly no idea why the nemesis feature isn't a thing in other games.

If you ever enjoyed a turn based jrpg in your life, I second this. Not "open world" per se, but you won't mind. 100+ hour game.

It's because the dickheads patented it. They're the only ones who can make games with a nemesis system. It caused a huge stink a while back, but what're you gonna do, right? Still, it sucks. One of the few real instances of real gameplay innovation I've seen in a long time.

On a more positive note, they began hiring a few years ago for a new game featuring the nemesis system. They announced it to be an open world Wonder Woman game.

Thirded on this OP. It's the first Persona game I've ever played and it guaranteed a day 1 buy on all future entries. One of the best games I've played this gen

what mods you recommend for Morrowind? I got it on steam and tried modding it one time and couldnt get it to run then just forgot about it. I played it a lot back on OG xbox though and would love to get a modded version running

I haven't played RDR2 (only RDR1) but I've heard that Witcher 3 and RDR2 are basically peer-less when it comes to open-world AAA games. It's not really an RPG but it is single-player and quite immersive.

Was super excited to play RDR2 but I'm a consolecel now and that game looks like poverty on console. They also said they won't be upgrading it, oh well.
