Try a foam roller, that spot is hard to reach w/out.

depends what kinda of pain.. is it stabbing ?radiating ? dull ?

if anything stop working upper body for 4 weeks... pop ibuprofen twice a day for 1 week or 10 days .....see how it goes... if the pain subsides stop the pills and rest for another week or 10 days...... go back to training ...light weights, low volume twice a week.... if no pain...pump up with weights once a week only ....if the pain returns go visit a dr

Yeah I have. It's possible it's because there's something wrong with your neck.

i think radiating is the most precise option. 4 weeks without serious training sounds depressing af ... :/ im pretty sure i had this problem a bit even before gym tbh. do you think maybe dropping deadlifts, squats, back day and shoulders day can be enough? so at least ill do chest, legs and arms.

Someone mentioned your neck, I mean - maybe. You might be surprised how pains in your body originate far away. My masseuse was working on my right thumb, eventually going all the way up my arm to find the problem.

Taking a long rest is the biggest crock of chit. I know so many guys, myself included, who took 8 months off due to covid and 2 weeks back at gym, all the pain came back lol.

Does it hurt worse when you do certain movements? Like when you pull your scapula back?

Could be a lot of things. In your case, sounds like it's been going on for years. I wouldn't relate it to working out, and no need to get dependent on meds to solve a small chronic problem. Since it was a thing before working out, I wouldn't say stop working out either (working out the right way is usually pretty good for back pain as long as the pain didn't come on recently; in your case, you had this since before you started working out).

Radiating? As in it feels like its coming from more midline and going out there? Does it feel tingly at all, or is it more achy? Is it there when resting (like just sitting in a chair or laying down) or when doing a certain movement/exercise? Is there a certain point someone could push on that causes the pain? How old are you? It could be a lot of things like tightness in muscle, facet/rib hypomobility, or chit posture (the way you sit or sleep; the way you pick things up during your outside work). Need more info

I used to have pain in that same spot, but it went away when I started working out (probably strengthened some peri-scapular muscles).

If its really bothering you, it might be worth a visit or two to a physical therapist or your physician. Also, try out Jusos foam roller idea (just make sure not to foam roll your lower back)

I had that and it was very painful. I ended up going to physical therapy. It was amazing what they did to clean up the pain. They basically took their hand and shoved it under your scapula and did all sorts of manipulating on the neck down into the shoulder far away from that area. I had to go for three sessions and it was the most amazing pain relief after they were done.
