Misc beat battle thread #4

All entries welcome boyos, otherwise come in to judge who flipped it best.

Sample pick is a track from our very own Kormo - Hypno Composition



I don't have a vocaroo link yet, but can post one if you have trouble downloading from youtube.

The rules are pretty lax - use the sample somewhere in the mix, add your own drums, bassline, extra sparkle etc, and have fun.

yea might need that vocaroo link. The last youtube to mp3 converter I used to use doesn't work anymore. Not sure what's a safe option these days

I used to use the web based converters, but youtube keeps shutting them down and they are getting dodgy. I have enough interfaces now I can play it on youtube, send it out through the mixer and directly record it back into Audacity.

Yeah man, MPC Beats is free software and you can write the notes in with your mouse. It can be a steep learning curve if you're just starting out but very rewarding.

Youtube will have some good videos for beginners

Nice! The bass reminds me of late 90's/2000's Eminem beats. The mix down sounds professional, I need to start using the limiter more to get my volume up.

Fickin trying to make this beat and the power keeps cutting out..... I'm dealing with an approaching hurricane. Total momentum killer..... lol gonna do this! Just gotta keep hitting save. I need a battery backup!

Thanks man! Yeah, my limiter is doing a lot of work in that track lol. I'm using the Fabfilter Pro-L2, which is an excellent limiter.

Absolutely man, practice makes perfect, although your scratching sounds great on your beat.

I was big into DJing/scratching for over 15 years (mostly hip hop and drum n bass), but then all the digital vinyl systems came out and I just never upgraded my setup, opting to go down the producer/composer/sound engineer route instead. My Technics 1200s and Vestax PMC 05 Pro II have been sitting in their flight cases for ages. Now your beat has made me want to mix/scratch lol. I need to get a proper table for my decks in the studio.

You outdid yourself man, I'm loving it. That bass sound is excellent, did you actually play it on a bass? Really gives the whole track some srs groove. The arrangement is spot on too.

Aye this is nice! That bass sounds warm af, I haven't found a substitute for a real bass guitar in a plug in yet.

You added all those extra elements too, vocal samples, electric guitar, extra piano. I really liked that second half breakdown.

Strong entry. Strong battle overall.

But I'm still gonna vote for myself on this one

Damn that is great. I didn't think about time stretching the sample. You managed to make a chord progression out of it in the beginning and builton that. Thats dope.

That was my only knock on the sample/song. It didn't really have a chord progression, just mainly some erry melodic minor thing going on. But it is pretty cool.

Sounds great man. What is your go to plug in for the synth/string sounds?

I'm playing these on my PA really loud and everyone's mix sounds great.

Thanks brah. The bass came from the bassline plugin in MPC. It's one of the 'Air' plugins, which (I think) means it came from Protools.
