Let's just say you got some money and you suddenly became mortgage free.
So now all you got is property taxes and hydro at $500-$700/month.
Would you still stay at the same job you currently have?
How would you live your life differently?

travel somewhere once every 2 months. I would save up about 4k so I could get a nice Air bnb or hotel with good breakfast, and have 1.5k for food, 1k for activities, hopefullty the other 1.5k covers airfare, room, and vehicle expenses(rental, uber whatever)
I dont see the point at my age to put all my money in investments to only enjoy one day when I am 20 years older. I already invest enough in my property and my retirement and have skills to fall back on for extra income. Thats a lie by the wealthy told to the poor/middle class to keep them subservient to the 9-5 life and never enjoying actually just living life. They know once someone realizes what they are doing making everyone their little worker drones, there is no turning back so best to keep everyone always focused on the future and never on the present.
I laugh at people who brag about their investments but never actually live life in the present. Fukking fools to the "american dream" lie.

as I age, I realize how important it is to enjoy life now. Once you have the mortgage paid off, that is your retirement. Even if you are unemployed at 70, the pension or even welfare should cover the basic bills.
Just use that money to enjoy life.
Where would you travel to?

Thanks for confirming mental rentardation - the only buildings that are heated with electricity that you are billed for, and do not have maintenance fees, are section 8 low rise chitholes.
SFH have gas furnaces more often than not, and if OP lives in a condo, he conveniently forgot to include the maintenance fees.

Nothing would change, I have rentcels paying my mortgages. If I suddenly won the lottery which I don't play, I'd just get more rental properties, mortgaged of course. Money that I came about would be invested.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Becoming mortgage free is definitely a part of my retirement plan. Far away from it seeing as I'm a rentcel that's still 1.5-2 years away from even a down payment lol. But I've got time I'm 27, my roth retirement accounts are vested and worth ~$50k at least, and I'm debt free, so that's something.
I suspect once you're mortgage free your monthly CoL would be less than $1k in current dollars. Probably $2k if you live more wildly (vacations, substances, dining out, events, etc.).
I think it's realistic to say by 30 I can buy a house. By 40 it'll be paid off in full if I pay above the monthly mortgage rate and have some help from investmaxxing. IDK if I will retire in my 40's, but that would be a good goal. I'd want 25 years worth of CoL in the combination of my retirement and non-retirement accounts, which I guess would be like half a mill in current dollars... on top of owning the house.

Well I'd still be paying my bish ex wife alimony so its not like I'd be financially free. If I had endless money though? A LOT of Pepsi and girls is what I'd be doing.
I already do those things but I wouldn't need to commit crime to do it.

We were faced with this decision. We got a windfall big enough to pay off the mortgage but the mortgage is at 2.625% so we said no to that. The money is going into a CD at 4.5% for now until we figure out what we want to do. I think we are going to reno our home since it really needs it and construction prices should be declining next year. This will make our 700k home worth 1.1 million easily.
