A recruiter reached out to me and offered this job (benefits inside)

Looking for advice. **SERIOUS**

The job is 100k salary but no PTOs or paid vacations. It's factored in the salary. The position is Systems Administrator.
This is a W2 contract for 12 months. Says the job is with Peraton. They have around $5-$10 billion in government contracts.

My questions are: 1) Are these kinds of jobs worth it?
2) Is it really $453.99 a week for the GOLD medical insurance package? Holee fook! I currently have the same thing and pay $600 a month for my entire family right now with my state government job.
3) Why do they charge weekly for insurance?

If I am understanding this medical benefits thing right. My monthly cost would be $1935. Phukk. The recruiter did say many people start work here and end up staying on board and moving up quickly since there is large IT department. I finished my cloud computing program and scheduled to take my AWS solutions architect exam next month. I can move up into a cloud role if I wanted to. A quick glance on glassdoor and the reviews aren't bad for Peraton. I dunno broskis...the extra money would help since my wife had her surgery for her cancer. It would alleviate some financial stress. Any feedback is appreciated.

You do accrue PTO right? That is a normal thing to get on these contracts. The more years with the company the more you accrue Monthly.

You may want to clarify the health insurance cost. That sounds high.

Peraton recently bought up all the NGC contracts after they spun off the services. From what I know the old NGC contracts were honored, but I have never spoken to anyone hired directly with Peraton. Everyone I know that works for them has not been fully absorbed yet.

Probably just a job to spin up EC2s and treat them like physical servers in the cloud. . .

If you do plan on going the DoD contracting route you should find a list of the most required contractual agreement a like CISSP, Secret Security clearance, ITIL, etc. If you get all those you can always get a job since they just need warm bodies with those requirements to bill the government. Bonus points if you are a disabled black woman.

From what I understand, the recruiter told me there is no PTO or paid vacation days. They factored that into the salary. Like I said, I'm taking my AWS solutions architect exam next month. I have the AWS SysOps Administrator lined up afterward then onto Azure certs and learn Python.

Tried to help, but you do not seen to understand what I wrote regarding contractual certifications. Try reading again.

They may not require any of what you are looking at. Not saying do not get them, but maybe try to get the other ones the company is required to fill the roles with. Some like a security clearance may be negotiable for lower salary or deployable position. Once you get it you are worth more.

Like I said. . . Make me regret replying to you

I'll do my research on the most required contractual agreement when I speak to the recruiter tomorrow. I do know the security clearance thing is a big deal and will lead to more opportunities. I appreciate your time.

Nah he's basically a contractor who gets paid hourly. Sounds like the yearly would come out to around $100k if he took none. In reality OP should factor in he's probably not going to go without any time off so likely would make less depending on how many he actually takes.

I've had contractor jobs like this in the past. It's not that you can't take any time off, you just don't get paid while off.

If that premium is right you pay $23k in health insurance every year? WTF? Can't be right.

Edit:

Actually that does seem right after googling it apparently.

I was thinking the same. I definitely need to get some clarification tomorrow. I can understand 12k annually but not 23k.

I hadn't thought of this. You're right, it's cheaper, however it doesn't include dental and visual insurance.

I'm a senior systems admin, W2, 7 years total IT experience, I'll post my compensation and benefits below.

Base - $150k
Health, PPO, No Deductible, - $600/m (Dental & Vision - $35/m)
Life Insurance - $50k, No Cost
401k - 4% @ 100% after 1 year
Unlimited PTO - I take about 5-6 weeks a year
No Set Schedule - I usually come into work after 10AM.
Misc - Various bonuses per year, catered lunch multiple times a month, gym membership discounts, plus other stuff I'm forgetting.

IDK where you're at, but I'm in DC.

Very nice. You're killing it. I'm in Texas and this is a remote job. I don't think I'm willing to take this job since it does not seem worth it to me. I have 20 years of IT experience but have only been a Systems Admin for 4 years. I know there will be other opportunities. Until I move to San Antonio I have to settle for remote jobs since my area sucks.

you dont need dental and visual insurance if its going to cost you 24k a year in premiums!

save some extra money and ensure you and family are brushing teeth vigorously after every meal. those premiums numbers are far worse that obamacare, and make me think they are hoping a schmuck like you will take the plan (which is probably some bad HRA plan where the employeer covers all costs, and they are hoping to make money off this).

I had the same thing I asked about with no responses. Had an offer for direct hire for $65/hr with great benefit package, or $80/hr c2c job which sounded like zero benefits. I was trying to figure out which one is better overall.

Used to work benefits with Amazon and fedex.

You dont have to take any of those options. Of course it depends on your family situation too. Like if you have a wife and kids, they will always need to go to the doctor. Just yourself and its not an issue so get the cheapest one unless you have some issues. If your wife has issues, of course you will need decent coverage.

Those prices are pretty steep. They probably list the cost weekly because most companies will do that because they are paid weekly, That sort of thing.

Either way, those prices are super high.

The HSA ones means you can set aside pre tax money to pay for medical expenses you will incur. That money goes into a special account that can only be used for medical stuff. People who make decent money like to max out their hsa so their taxes are lower. You dont have to do this if you need the funds in your check instead.

The deductibles are pretty steep. Thats what you have to pay before the insurance kicks in and starts covering stuff. That gold plan has an 8k deductible so you will be covering out of pocket up to that amount before insurance pays anything. Plus your monthly premiums. Could get quite expensive. Factor that in before deciding.

Check out your states obamacare exchange. Pretty much all states have them and offer lots of different choices and price points. its not cut rate insurance, same stuff but just offered from the state instead of a company.

Companies spend a fortune of subsidizing insurance costs so obviously, this company decided not to do that.

I think so. This was a big deal when affordable care act came into play. If you opted to not have insurance you would get fined when doing your tax return. Some people couldn't afford it and getting fined. Sounds phukked up.
