What to do if holiday is planned around the time at which a new job is starting?

Cliffs:

-New job starting late Jan next year
-Already had vacation penciled in for 1 week early Feb before applying for role
-Discussed this during the offer phase and line manager said he would honor it

Part of me feels that this is taking the piss somewhat and that I should ask for it to be unpaid leave or something
