Watching Happy Gilmore for the first time in ages and I noticed something

I used to think it was a story about a loveable larrikin who wrecked some posh stuck up dude at his own game through hilarious and unconventional means.

In reality it's a story about a dude who subverted a centuries old sport via degeneracy. He physically assaulted and/or verbally abused anyone he pleased and thought his grandma should be allowed to keep a house that she hadn't made payments for over a decade. He blames all his problems on everyone else and ultimately destroyed a man who dedicated his life to upholding the standards and traditions of a once noble sport.

Typical white privileged viewpoint. See I saw it as a story about a 1 armed black man who continued his love of the game he wasn’t welcomed in, because of his skin color. He had to fight his whole life to be allowed on golf courses. Another challenge came when an alligator chomped off his hand that he needed to play. Unable to play anymore, he persevered and became a golf instructor. Then trained a white guy, the same race who profiled him his whole life, and brought him from unable to hit a golf ball to winning the tournament, even after he died.
