Name something better. I haven’t played the remake or crises core, and I don’t do gacha games. Ocarina of time is close as far as overall game quality considering gameplay (and BOT is arguably better). FF6 and FF4 laid a lot of the groundwork. Nothing as good as FF7 though, in terms of story.

There’s literally top ten lists of tragedies within that game.

Tactics was another awesome one, but totally military in terms of story.

The FF7 remake was alright, though I was disapointted all I wanted to do was get to the gold Saucer and catch, breed and race Chocobo. But the remake never progressed to that point

I played Xenoblade, but not Xenogears. I know theres a lot of FFX fans as well, but it didn’t hit me the same.

Yeah Xenogears had a serious amount of depth. Damn great story, overall.

It's not an RPG but I think the Max Payne trilogy had a great story overall.

Imagine if they made sequel or spin-off games using the PS1 graphics and music.

FF7 is incredible. I grew up with it, and I'm assuming you did too OP. I think it hits differently when it's you're favorite childhood game. I think it's the best game ever. Story is great. Has kind of a fight club twist to it. It's Jodi so fcking good.

I'd probably go with Deus Ex, Mass Effect 2, GTA V, or Witcher 3 for best stories.

Ocarina of Time was the best for me. Just replayed it on switch a few weeks ago since last playing it when it was new and it still holds up. Playing Breath of the Wild now and like it a lot.

I was playing FF7 when they had it on Xbox game pass a while ago and was getting into it but it expired and they removed it.

Chrono Trigger will always be the GOAT for me. Such an in depth game for the 90s. Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore were good too.

On R/C. I recently replayed Chrono Trigger, and playing it in 2022, you realize just how creative and brilliant the time/dimensional travel aspect of it was. Crazy for the time it came out, and the multiple endings was an awesome touch. The Glenn (Frog) story always stood out to me. There were some awesome people behind that one, who went on to work on a lot of other games mentioned here, and even DBZ.
