Semi-Vintage Chad?
I don't know much about him. I really only know about him because he has collaborated/toured withSuzanne Vegain the past.
I think this was his biggest hit, although artists' hits are often not necessarily their best work, not to say that this wasn't a good song, because it was. (Despite my having been into almost exclusively Hip Hop about this time, but transitioning to earlier Motown, then into Suzanne Vega during this period, and living under a rock as usual, I know I heard this song a few times when it was charting and probably occasionally after that). It definitely strikes me as belonging to its era - very 90s.
A nice song of contradictions. Modulated, tempered-down angst, cloaked in upbeat instrumentation, moreover.
Was watching this video again today (watched it for the first time maybe a few weeks ago), and I was just now thinking...he was definitely Chad, although maybe/apparently more like a Sigma Chad than an Alpha Chad? (If that's not a totally unacceptable combination of terms).
Anybody else ever been into him? Any of his other songs you particularly like?

I've digested this a little more.
Yeah, the song is pretty deceptive. I mean, yes, it does explicitly state that it is a song of contradictions. But being cloaked in that upbeat tempo is what makes it deceptive. Very much likeMs. Vega's"Luka".
Was looking into Sheik a little more. Scorpio. Oh boy. And he is trine me (almost exactly 120 days apart - a very strong aspect in astrology). Particular to him, not only is he a Solar Scorpio, but his Mercury and Venus are also in Scorpio, so that just intensifies the emotional weight. And his moon, unless he was born almost right at midnight, is in Pisces, which...well...that is neither a good or bad position of the moon (it has no "official domal dignity or debility"), but it is still a good position for the moon, although very weighty and can really tend towards depression. His Jupiter in Libra is...well...that also has no "official domal dignity or debility", but I generally think that's a good thing, as Libra is not exactly constrictive which would be a bad thing for Jupiter, but it means that for anybody who has that in their chart, they are likely to grow and focus more on "the other" as they age through life - a tendency to sacrifice, as Moon in Pisces also has a tendency to sacrifice. Definitely the chart, as reflected at least in this song, of someone who is very emotionally weighty and intense, although perhaps depressed and conflicted. Their "cross to bear", so to speak.
Being a Cancer, I can really respond to this type of energy. And many astrologers would interpret either Scorpio or Pisces as the ones I would get along with best and most intensely, although Capricorns would challenge me the most and perhaps be the ones to make me grow the most. I look to Pisces as the "Omega" (in a good way - the "most evolved" sign of the zodiac). Scorpios are where the intensity is at, though, and they have such a major tendency to center on and stick to the depths and the root of things. I mean, really. Not easy to engage with that intensity and weight. And engaging with that incredible willpower...can be very difficult for a lot of people, certainly myself included, because that kind of intense willpower isn't exactly one of my strong suits. A lot of magnetic attraction and pull, but that thorn is not on the stem, but embedded all through that rose, whether or not that rose intends that to be the case.
