Well, Djokovic just a few seconds ago won his 6th ATP Finals championship, just edging past Roger Federer's 5 such wins.

En route to doing so, Djokovic won every match, which is not necessary to win the championship as the first rounds are "Round Robin" matches where each player has to win only 2 of their 3 matches to advance to the semi-finals. In fact, Djokovic only dropped one set through the whole match.(ETA: And that set that he dropped was a tie-breaker, moreover, that he only barely lost.) He's doing this against players who are a decade or so younger than him and a few inches taller.

So, this means that in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, of the 8 Grand Slam and ATP Finals Championships he's entered, he became the champion at 5 of them. 5 of 8 Championships. Uh, I think that's pretty telling.

I think his wins at the ATP Finals (all matches won) will boost him from being #8 at the end of the year to #5 at the end of the year. If he had been allowed to play at this year's Australian and US Opens (I think it was the vaccine shot issue which kept him from being able to attend), he would probably be ending the year as the #1.

also watch a lot of tennis. these guys who he is playing against all basically watched rafa, fed, djoko growing up. all learned their styles through them (can't play like fed though no one can even though many have tried)...what i'm saying is that the new crop is very very good. and some hit way harder than I remember even 10 years ago.

How much of it has to do with the added height in the new generation? Of the 6 players at this year's ATP finals who are neither Nadal nor Djokovic, 4 of those 6 are 6'4"+.

In fact, if you look at the top 20 in the current ATP rankings, the average height is somewhere above 6'3". 9 of the 20 players are 6'4"+, and 4 of those are 6'6"+. Only 4 are below 6'2" (none below 6 feet).

It seems pretty clear that a new standard for height is coming into play.
