Brahs How Do I Get Over A Horrific Migraine (srs)

I got hit at about 8pm Friday night with my first ever full blown migraine in my life. It was so bad, along with the nausea, I was bed ridden until 6pm yesterday and up until this very moment I haven't had any food besides a couple handfuls of Honey Nut Cheerios before I take some tylonel. Literally have never experienced anything like this before. Zero appetite, the pain from this headache reverberates down my face and into my teeth, eyes in pain, etc. I thought I had the flu at first because of the nausea that came with it, but I have zero other symptoms. I don't even feel sick.

It's finally starting to clear up a bit and I can keep my eyes open for longer than 5 min now. Slowly feeling more normal but I feel like I'm hungover or something. Not sure how to explain.

Any tips to help clear this up? I have to wagecel tomorrow and Idk I can make it.

Some things that might help if it happens again.

Turn off the lights. Light and sound can make migraine pain worse. Relax in a dark, quiet room.
Temperature therapy. Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck.
Sip a caffeinated drink. In small amounts, caffeine alone can relieve migraine pain in the early stages.
Essential oils sometimes help with the pain like lavender, peppermint, and chamomile. Dab it onto your temples.
Tylenol doesn't work, get some Excedrin for migraines.

Feel better.

kimm coming in clutch. Sipping on caffeine now which I haven't had yet and it's clearing up the pain above my eyes already. srs.

Now I know excedrin is for migraines. Have never taken it before or had a migraine so my ignorance here has cost me. Fuark is this chit brutal though.

Glad you are getting some relief.

FWIW I was told:

- pot of coffee
- 2 extra strength tylenol
- 2 aspirin

Triptans are the only thing that work. That and getting to the bottom of what causes them (for some it's muscle tension, which is why botox works).

Anyone recommending tylenol, excedrin migraine (which is only named excedrin migraine because most people don't know what an actual migraine is), and stupid **** like that has never had a migraine.

Try finding pressure points on your head (srs)

I used to put a towel around my head then tighten it up with a belt, the pressure around my temples immediately stopped the pain

btw you think it could be tension related? i had this "fish hook tension headache" pattern and went to a physical therapist who did Active Release Therapy stretches on my neck, and all the tension was gone and my headaches disappeared

That's the cause of every basic tension headache. Everyone gets them. Only 20% or so of people will get a single migraine in their life. The bad ones like the OP has that last days can be painful as ****. It's completely unrelatable for people who have only experienced an ordinary headache.

Like I said in my above post, muscle tension and resulting chronic nerve irritation can trigger migraines, but it is still distinct and extremely severe compared to a tension headache.

Yeah that was the cause in me too. They don't really understand why, but chronic nerve irritation from things like muscle tension can trigger migraines. But the migraine itself should always be 1 sided. I had tension headaches my entire life, but didn't have my first migraine until my early 20s.

Triptans worked very well, but they expire quickly. Nothing else worked.

Have you tried not being a bitch?

I get like 6-15 ocular migraines a year, and I've been having them for 10+ years. They suck ass, but you push through the pain and stay mentally strong.

Srs advice though: Almost nothing will really help the pain from my experiences. Excedrin, sleeping when I can (usually before the pain really kicks in), avoiding moving, distracting, etc all help a tiny amount. Really, you just have to wait for it to end.

try doing some neck stretches. hold 30 seconds
Thanks boyo. I took Tylenol and just finished sipping on an energy drink and that alone has had the best relief thus far. The pain above my eyes is gone now. Wish I did that sooner haha.

As for the tension....I don't feel any tension. I used to get random tension headaches years ago and could figure out where it was coming from. This one though has left me confused. I've spent all day looking for tension areas and massaging different areas looking for trigger points and if anything, there is little to no tension anywhere. I feel loose and good throughout my neck, upper traps, upper back, shoulders, etc. So this has confused me quite a bit.

What are triptans? Is that something you can get OTC?

As I said in the reply above, I honestly cannot find any tension. I rarely ever get headaches but when I do it is usually from tension or tightness. This time I have zero from what I can tell. I've checked the trigger point areas, all around the neck front to back, upper traps, etc. I actually feel very good in that respect.

So that's why I am not sure what caused such a crippling headache. All off the pain was in the front/forehead and above the eyes. Didn't really have any headache pain in the back of my head.

Is the pain 1 sided or at least extremely disproportionate (90+%) on 1 side? If not then it's not a migraine. Or at least extremely unlikely. For me the pain would basically be the entire left side of my head from the back to the top, to inside my head, to the front and eye. But always the left side only.

Triptans are prescription meds that act on the brain to stop the migraine somehow.

If you get this often go see a neuro and get on dat der process of elimination time and see which medication actually works for you srs. the goal is one that doesn't cause too much side effects while preventing them. usually when I felt like one coming I drank espresso/big cup of coffee with tylenol always worked

I would say it is mainly on my left side and the pain reverberates along my eyes and forehead. I can see the veins popping out quite a bit on my left side.

I think I may have actually found a possible tight spot that could be affecting it now that I can move my head around more. The muscle in the neck that connects down by the collar bone is a lot tight on my left side. It doesn't feel tight until I pulled my head back on an angle. I'll try working on that spot a bit to see if it helps.

In...But with not with any advice.

I just curl up in agony and puke my guts out until it subsides.

I hope you don't get them more frequently. I average maybe one per year. It fkn blows, man. I get the visual aura beforehand and so whenever there's a bright spot or floater in my vision, I get completely paranoid until it goes away, lol.

Wish I could give you a miracle to get over one. What works for one person might not work for the next. I get them often, but usually know when one is coming on and I’m able to cut it off at the pass. Tylenol doesn’t do anything. Excedrin migraine or Advil at the very least. I take a hot shower and lay in a dark room with my eyes and ears covered. I get very sensitive to smell, so I have to make sure there isn’t anything funky smelling around or I’ll start vomiting. Once that starts it’s game over. The vomiting makes my head throb more which makes me even more sick to my stomach and round and round it goes lol.
My favorite was when I had one so bad I saw arcs of light and had paralysis on one side of my face and down my arm. Was so stuck on stupid I couldn’t even call for help. Managed to call a family member and was taken to the ER thinking I was having a stroke. Blood work and a CT scan later it was deemed Just a complicated migraine. Fun times. Hope you feel better and hope you never have one again.

Yea the first night I woke up and made myself puke once from the nausea just to get rid of it. Now that you mention it, I had some weird vision things before I got mine too. Like bright spots and stuff. Is that a thing for migraines?

This is my first ever migraine that wasn't just a bad headache or tension headache. I maybe get 5 headaches a year if even at this point. So this experience has thrown me for a loop.

I basically just did what you did and curled up in a ball and slept almost this entire time and moaning like a small child.

you are supposed to put your feet in hot water while sitting upright and put a cold towel on your head or an icepack

the warmth and angle of your body should send bloodflow downward and the cold on your head should help divert bloodflow as well

THC is also great for migraines/headaches especially edibles but i know that isnt your thing
