Don’t know how interested the misc is in the Syrian war anymore? I’ve followed the conflict for years, and after spending the better part of 2022 in Syria myself, I have a renewed interest in how things go.

Recently things have been heating up with the numerous actors on the ground which makes me wonder if things will pop off soon.

- After a bombing in Istanbul attributed to the Kurds, Turkey has bombed Kurdish Syria and Iraq, even striking at a base used by the USA. Turkey is threatening a ground invasion and there has already been Kurdish retaliation with rockets being fired into Turkey.

- The Kurds control areas in North Eastern Syria that have major anti-Kurd/American sentiments. ISIS attacks and activity has continued at a frequent pace; the Turkish invasion will result in ISIS gains.

- Israel continues to bomb Iranian backed militias and the IRGC in Syria. Today another high ranking Iranian military leader was killed by Israel. Iran has vowed to take revenge. This week Iran attacked a Israeli owned oil rig with a drone strike.

- Iranian backed militias in Syria and US forces have engaged each other multiple times this year. Israeli or US actions against Iran or Iran backed forces are almost always met with rocket or drone strikes on US forces. I personally have lived through these rocket attacks on two seperate occasions at two different US bases in Syria, it is not fun.

While the Syrian war has been on pause for quite sometime now. I feel as though things have been heating up this year especially over the last 6 months. Does America plan on staying in Syria forever? Because otherwise I don’t see how they stop the Iranian and Russian backed Syrian government from reclaiming NE Syria immediately after their departure. And at that point what are we even here for if it is all going to be a waste in the end?

There is no one who wants the US in Syria besides the Kurds and Israel. Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Russia all want the US out.

When they found oil and gas in the black sea by Ukraine, Syria became irrelevant.

Syria was always a resource war against Russia

Syria will always be relevant due to it’s location.

Iran wants to maintain the capability to threaten Israel, and support its allies through the Iraqi-Syria-Lebanon corridor.

Israel wants to change the Syrian government to one that will bend the knee. Israel and the West and so far failed at that, so their play has been to weaken the Syrian government and keep the country divided. The US places it’s forces in areas that disrupt Iranian freedom of movement; while Israel continued to bomb Syrian/Iranian forces almost weekly.

Israel’s long term goal is to take more Syrian land imo. But this whole thing has always been about weakening Iran’s capabilities and influence in the Middle East to the benefit of Israel and the Saudi government.

No one cares about Syria.

Ukraine is the next big thing.

It will come into play again. The sole reason for war in Syria was provide an alternative to Russian natural gas and oil.

Turkish strikes hit at Russian, and US bases in Syria. US troops were 300 yards from where the strike took place on their SDF/Kurd partners.

No US or Russian troops were injured but you can imagine they aren’t happy about this. It’s true that no one cares about Syria right now, but that’s just because the media is not actively ordering you to care. It says nothing to the significance that the Syrian war has on the Middle East and RUSSIA/USA/IRAN.

If it’s a problem for Israel then it’s a problem for America.

Syria, Iran and Russia cumbstomped ISIS and its US/UK/Israeli backers.

That on top of the US losing in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last 20 years, pretty much took the wind out of the Israeli and their lapdog US/UK sails.

I'd love to get my hands on a Syrian counter-insurgency manual, because they legit ****ed Israeli lapdog chit up.

Looking more and more like Turkey will send in ground troops.

Once all those detained ISIS members break free and link up with their buddies they will have freedom to move about and conduct their business freely as i suspect SDF checkpoints will be abandoned.

Interesting to see what American response will be to SDF getting their **** pushed in again up north.

When is the next election. That pretty much telegraphs the timeline.

The Kurds have been playing all sides of this war in order to keep and maintain the territory they control in North Eastern Syria. They work together with both Russia and the US and have Syrian government troops deployed alongside them in some areas.

Word is that the Turkey has issued demands to the Kurds via Russia; if those demands are not met by a certain timeline Turkey will start the ground offensive. All indications are that the Kurds have rejected the demans and will fight. Russia has suggested to the Kurds that they should allow further deployment of Syrian Army troops on the frontier, a move that may eventually result in the return of northern Syria to the government depending on how this plays out.


I think the Kurds have been too greedy, and put their faith in the US to prop up their dreams of having their own country; when they should have sought agreements with the Syrian government. Now the US isn’t providing them the cover they need and they may lose it all, ending up with terms less favorable than what could have been achieved.

Edit: also worth mentioning that the kurds control the oil and gas rich areas of Syria. They take the oil and gas and sell it to the legitimate Syrian government for profit. US bases sit close to many of the gas fields. Turkey has already bombed some of them.


A theory that makes sense to me is that the Syrian government will use the Turkish invasion to destroy the Kurdish idea of its own country, eventually leading to Syria reclaiming all of its territory. If the Syrians did it themselves they would get wrecked by the US, but if Turkey does it the US will do nothing.
