Dad asked me about social security lol

Mayne some miscers know

What's the earliest he can.retire
How can we check of he still needs to work

He pretty much wants $1000 a month so he can go rot in a South American country, for a single man that's rich status, plus he has a business of his own

Have him create an account on My SSA. I actually suggest everyone do to learn how different scenarios play out. There are pretty big differences based on how much you made during your peak years, and when you choose to start receiving from 62-70.

For example if I can live off of my 401k until 70 and not take out at 62, my benefit goes from 2k to over 4k a month.

Although I remember my parents said that if you wait until 67 you get more social security per month. Ugh that's 16 years of wageslaving.

How does tour benefit go up if you ain't working anymore at 62 ?

If he is fine with whatever amount he has earned and has no savings to live off to delay getting benefits, then yes he can start at 62 and it will only go up when they do CoL adjustments. If he could for example live off of a 401k for a few years and get to full retirement age of 67, then he would probably get ann extra grand or more every month for the rest of his life.

62 is the earliest he can start collecting.

Needs to apply online about 4 months prior, used to be 6 but its 4 now.

When approved he will start drawing it the first full month he is 62. For example, if his birthday is the 15th of Nov, he will start drawing in in Dec.

Needs to have some documents too so might get those together now.

He is lucky because by the time our generations get to that point there will be no Social security and no 401k because the stock market will be non existent and everyone's retirements will have been depleted
