I have 96 chickens to butcher tonight. AMA.

-Picked up chickens from buddy's farm last night
-Chickens were free, cuz they are the ones the shippers missed grabbing
-Antibiotic and hormone free
-Op had to drive down, kill em all by hand, drive home and get them cold
-Pluck, butcher, package and freeze tonight
-Gonna be a long night.



Edit: Chickens are dumb as fuk, and chicken chit is awful stuff.

Last time it took like 8 hours to do 65. My angus is peppered.

I enjoy it because its free. Bagging and freezing. We still have a dozen from last time we got some, so this will last us the year for sure. My wife is doing some expensive fertility treatments, so trying to get that paid off asap. Free meat helps, so why not.

My bud raises and sells 25,000 chickens about every 44 days. Profit is about $100,000 each time...

So with the prices of things lately, ya, I will put on a podcast and butcher some birds.

A wal mart, maple leaf whole chicken here is like $14.00.

Some of these birds are a bit smaller, (runts), but still, I figure I have between $700-1000 sitting there at store prices.

I feel ok making that for a day or so worth of work.

Imagine the smellz. One thing people who've never taken an animal apart don't fully appreciate is the smell. How do you kill them. I see heads are still attached...

ETA: zoomed in, not so sure I can see heads actually.

You grab them by the neck and pretend they are a rally towel or chop block?


As a young kid I helped my grandparents do this....pretty wild seeing them run away headless. Srs, vry srs. Probably why I turned into a miscer.

I don't like killing farm animals. Its not an enjoyable thing, but they will die one way or another.

If I wasn't taking them the farmer would legit kill and bury them as these ones are leftover after the truck comes, srs.
