A lot of artistic front men like him (Jim Morrison, etc) were a hybrid and difficult to discern as alpha vs beta.
I think in the end blokes like Cobain et al were alpha because they were a style all their own and stood true as best they could.

In addition to all of the Pros listed in the OP, he was, IIRC, a pretty good wrestler. Really strong for his size, good technique, etc. So I really don't think Beta. If not a 100% Classical Alpha, then an Alpha/Sigma hybrid....something like that.

An alpha is someone you would want to be if you could. I would not want to be him, at all in any stage of his life, so he's not someone "leading" me to do anything like him.
