People like to make excuses for failure, they don't want to admit they're eating too much/not moving enough.

Most people do not count calories, will never count calories, and have zero interest in counting calories, for those people you have to use other tricks to get them to eat less calories, that’s where hormones come in, this is why low carb diets are so popular, generally they make people less hungry, so they eat less calories. that effect is hormonal.
Also, nobody’s really interested in losing weight, people are interested in losing fat, this is where the macros come in.

Naw no way , first of all your not even taking in the thermobolic effect of protein
Eat 2000 kcal of doughy nuts vs
2000 kcal of chicken (is only like eating 1400 kcal because 30% metabolized to break protein down)

People act like tracking calories and macros is something only a scientist can do
Reality is they can just use a free app and it takes about 10 minutes a day.
of course if they do that they they will have to face the fact that they are the ones to blame and not some magical hormone thing or metabolism crap.

Weight loss? that's kind of a generic Redditor Pheggytiem statement anyways. Body composition, fat loss, muscle gain are more specific goals, as another miscer pointed out. And none of those are simple IMO.
Sure, anyone can just starve and lose weight. Your body will just gain it back immediately.

And alcoholics just need to stop drinking.
What is all the cope with this addiction talk?
Easy for me to say, since I don’t have an addiction to alcohol. Right?
Do you see now how something can be true but also useless to say?

2000cals of donuts doesnt = 2000cals of chicken because of the thermic effect of food, but if you take that into account and adjust (lets say TEF of donuts if 10% and chicken is 30% just for example sake)
So if 2000 cals of donuts - 10% is actually 1800 calories after TEF, and then you go and eat ~2570 cals of chicken - 30% = 1800, and your maintenance is 2000, you'll have that same 200 calorie deficit and lose the same amount of WEIGHT.
What is important here though is that you'll likely hold on to much more muscle by eating the chicken (over the long term, when combined with resistance training) and lose more fat. Fat free mass is what makes up your BMR, thus itll keep your metabolism (and TDEE) higher than if you were to try to lose fat eating highly processed and palatable food (donuts).
Like someone else in the thread said, people should be aiming for FAT loss not weight loss, but a lot of people just want to see the scale go down by any means necessary when dieting and this is a big no-no

But it's just not the only consideration.
You're doing the same thing OP is doing, simplifying to an extreme. You're both wrong.

He’s saying that some people think losing weight isn’t even related to calorie expedientare and that other factors play a role and stop them from losing weight

I do agree that trackers and food labels are generally way off, but they give us a base and place to start, and then you can make weekly (or so) adjustments.

It's a good analogy. There are other factors to consider besides just calories, even though energy expenditure vs intake does ultimately regulate bodyweight.
Just like there are other factors to consider besides just quitting alcohol despite the fact that you can literally cure it by stopping the habit right now.
