Epigenetics is as important if not more so than genetics. The human race is degenerating due to poor environmental conditions, and even with average genetics, if you provide your offspring with good environmental conditions they will easily exceed their peers in phenotypic gene expression. This means feeding them proper food, avoiding plastics and cosmetics etc to ensure a good hormonal profile. The same thing applies to us, but to a lesser extent since we have already grown to adulthood.

Genetic recombination is a stochastic process, and its workings are unknown to us. It's not deterministic, even seemingly elite people can have chit-tier offspring and vice-versa. Hence why you can get specimens like LeBron from inauspicious beginnings. Great genetics are lurking in a lot of people, and good environmental conditions just give them the best chance to express themselves.

I saw a statistic somewhere that said that women interepret something like $10,000/yr in salary as equivalent to something like 1in of height. So if you are 5'5 stading next to a 6'0 man with everything else being equal, you have to make $70,000 a year more than he does to be perceived as a comparable mate.

Wish I could find that stat because it seems to ring true.

Maybe $100,000/yr more cause there's many, many women that would rather than an unemployed 6 footer than a 5'5 guy making 70k/year.

Yeah it's obviously not a perfect statistic, but the underlying logic is sound I think. It actually reinforces the point you're making in the OP because it's about mate selection.
