Children have no business being on the internet under 18 years old in this day & age; it's responsible for the violence

"DALLAS - A Republican lawmaker from North Texas filed a bill aimed at keeping children off social media.

State Rep. Jared Patterson’s HB 896 would require social media users to be 18 years old to create an account.

Patterson believes social media is harmful to children and compared it to the use of cigarettes before 1964.

"Once thought to be perfectly safe for users, social media access to minors has led to remarkable rises in self-harm, suicide, and mental health issues," he said.

When I was a early teen the internet was still in its infancy and MSN chat was about the only way you could communicate with friends, pre myspace etc. The only way to get a picture onto the computer was by fking scanning it lmao. This wasn't all that long ago but today is a completely different world for kids to grow up in. Not to mention the high definition, high speed hardcore pornography at their fingertips/in their pockets. Society is on a downward spiral that's gaining momentum and there's no coming back from it boyos.

Yeah. It will basically just give social media companies a good excuse to ban obvious kid accounts. Obviously it won't stop the smarter kids, but it will stop the stupid ones.

I agree with the sentiment, but not the law. It's the parents job to enforce this, and if the parents don't then the kids will be online whether its illegal or not.

My boys don't have access to any of that. The first one they showed interest in was tiktok, I put a stop to it then and there.

Maybe they can do as was done with movies, create a rating system. Younger kids are only allowed to visit rated PG social media sights on their own. R rated needs to be accompanied by a parent.
