What stops a madman from eventually launching nukes ending the world?

Like more countries are making them

Eventually someone will say IDGAF and launch them

Or it could be Putin if he finds out he has cancer and has months to live, why not launch them on his deathbed?

Or just some crazy nut in power, it's bound to happen unless there is a worldwide dismantlation

Pretty sure there's some safeguard process involved where it has to go through other people who could veto the decision, it's never up to just 1 person.

What's stopping them are the other people within the chain of command. I highly doubt Putin has a box with a launch button in his bedroom.

Yes, there is a possibility.

What stops that from taking place? Obviously countries reach an agreement to dismantle all nukes.

But then they will make something more dangerous or maintain something less dangerous. Human history is full of wars, violence and destruction.

Yeah and I doubt anyone would easily agree to a person who wishes to use them until and unless there is a strong defence argument.

While, if someone launches a nuke, they should be ready for a revenge attack, nukes after nukes, everyone loses.
