Well the public schools may not think it is an essential skill, which is sort of nuts to me.

I had to learn cursive in elementary and most of our written work through school had to be completed and turned in written in cursive.

I took typing on a type writer in high school.

My daughter didn't have to learn cursive and she was using the equivalent of MS Office when she was in elementary school. But she didn't have training in how to touch type. She hunts a pecks for letters.

OTOH she can totally kick my ass at texting using just her thumbs.

Are you talking about really fast touch typing? I can't do that chit. Nor do i care to, but its a skill, certainly. Not a essential one tho, unless you're a typist or your job demands it?

Actually, I guess not. Cause you could have a job that doesn't require it at all

Then you could still write letters and stuff

I'd say you'd be an outlier though

This is because I originally made a crack about my old supervisor inviting us to meeting just for him to type an email to someone and it took like 30 minutes since he types at 1wpm.

It used to be. These days, you can do a ton via voice.

I developed my typing skills gaming. I type like 120 wpm. Text at like 50 wpm. Can go much faster without punctuation and caps.

Lol they taught us cursive in elementary school too, and
Typing in middle school.

I remember turning in work in cursive, and the teachers said they wouldn't accept it
