It's that time of the year where we reflect about our lives. At least, those of us capable of that sort of introspection.

This year I find myself coming back to a scene from a while back. Great movie, too.

Not one scene but the overall plot and character development of the new Avatar made me do some reflection and think back to how I handled that part of my life that the characters were struggling with. Family, your place in the family, feeling like at times you don't belong or are an outsider (I'm adopted). Reminded me of my teen self and the times when I fell in love and had young crushes. Being the older brother it also made me think about how I tried to protect, teach, and also annoy my younger brother.

Glad to hear it touched you that deeply. It does go into the family dynamic, that 'sense of belonging', and yes that you're adopted is a major factor. Is your younger brother adopted as well? That sense of 'inclusion' is huge: my wife's father said, at the end of his wedding speech (translated from German): "I thought I might lose a daughter in this, and instead I gained a son."

We go for motorcycle rides in Germany, chop wood if I'm here for the summer. Wifey brings me out an ice cold beer and 'mettbrot' - nice and salty. Her parents are my friends - I never thought this could happen, as I had always clashed with my gf's parents in the past. *Always*.

I started watching The Bear on my flight here - it has a wild depth to it too.

Life can be stressful, and sometimes it is fun to unwind with something mindless. But I love a good drama.

Ofc chances are reasonably good none of us will get a death bed. We'll all go in a thermonuclear blaze by accident. That or get murdered and eaten by roving gangs of starving survivors.
