Nope, I'm assuming you're just looking back with rose tinted glasses/nostalgia.
The NES library wasn't all that great. Go download an emulator and play some (assuming you haven't) and you're going to be in for a lot of disappointment I bet. Now SNES you may be able to make a good argument for.

Haven’t tried emulators. Will check it out. I play Fortnite currently. I don’t think I suck to bad at it. Play on Xbox.

Nintendo hasn't been great for a long time. While the Switch continues to sell well, their games continue to score and sell less than other developers games. Mario used to be a big deal, but now many franchises surpass it in sales.

Eh, maybe if you're a kid. Their games are some all time wholesome classics, I'll give them that, and Super Mario Bros is pretty much the perfect 2D platformer, with Super Mario 64 essentially being the perfect 3D platformer. Mario Kart is the GOAT multiplayer racer, and Smash Bros is the GOAT multiplayer fighting game.
With all that said, I have sort of grown past playing their games most of the time. They're something I only play when I am really in the mood for some "classic" style gaming, in sense where I am playing video games that feel like the good old fashioned take on a video game.

NES Crew.
I don't think post GenX people can quite understand just how significant the Nintendo Entertainment System was. I mean, before that there was Atari which was pretty cool with space invaders and a few other arcade games but honestly it got old fast because they were very 1 dimensional where all they could really do is go faster or get more targets but that was it. Then out came Sega Genisis but it never really eclipsed the NES. Oh, and nothing like when Super Mario Bros 3 hit... holy fark it was huge. SMB3 crew. The only thing close was when COD Black Ops came out.

This is because nintendo understands what GAMES are.
Playstation has something closer to generally involved "stories".
God of War 1,2,3 were GAMES. They were titles of skill and offered a FUN and REWARDING challenge.
The last 2 God of wars were extended cut scenes with some very very extraordinarily basic fighting in between to give the illusion of a game.

I feel this is why im unable to get into playstation or xbox games of today. All the games seem like movies with some lame gameplay in between.

I often wonder what gaming would be like today if Sony never jumped into the gaming ring? Maybe the Dreamcast would have had a successors.
If I recall, Nintendo approached Sony about using their CD's for their next console. Nintendo bailed at the least minute and went the cartridge route and Sony said phuck it, we'll make our own console.
Anyway, I had to get a Switch for Zelda. Its really the only game I bought for it that I actually beat (and Mario Kart when family comes around), everything else I started and kinda lost interest. In fact I think the only thing fueling my enjoyment of gaming is nostalgia because its hard for me to "get into" new franchises. The only new games I'll sit down and play are the 8-32 bit indie games that you can pick up and play in small spurts and doesn't require complete dedication.
The formula for me when it comes to big budget games is; i'll buy it, play it off an on for about a week or so, get tired of it and take a 2-3 month break, then come back to it. But, because its been so long, i've forgotten the control scheme (how to do certain combos/access menus/execute parrys or whatever gimmick the game forces you to learn), and because i'm at some advanced stage of the game from when I initially stopped playing, I lose interest because i'm essentially stuck because I keep dying over and over.
god I sound like an old man when I say that, lol.

(online) multiplayer is "easy" since the fun is in playing with/against other people and not so much on the game itself
f.e. played 100s of hours of FIFA against my mates in my lifetime but the games itself aren't anything special compared to something like Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Witcher 3, Vice City, Mafia 2, ...

Double Dragon, Castlevania, Contra, Mega Man were not made by Nintendo brah.
I think they definitely made some of the best games of all time with the Zeldas and Marios.
Capcom, Konami, or Rare might edge them out though. Rare made some fooking amazing games over the years.
Sega was no slouch either. Sonic 2 is right up there with Mario 3 on the list of greatest games of all time.
