Need to decide a career path

28 year old and broke working minimum wage living with parents. My ideas:

A) go back to school for CompSci to pursue web development. (I'm not big into tech, but it's the only field I have any interest in that isn't art)

B) learn a trade for either HVAC or electrician (last resort)

C) G4P

I don't have any real skills currently and the only thing I have no real interests that can translate into a profession. I've more or less narrowed it down to tech or those two trade fields, but I'm not crazy about either.

the most important thing is to start something that makes real money. you're 28 so you're procrastinating on becoming an adult. "going back to school" is just more procrastinating. you'd kick the can down the road another couple years, and you may not even like it.

Do a trade so you can start bringing in money ASAP. If you don't like it, go to school at night for the comp science thing.

The trade will always be a good fallback job/side hustle for the future too.

1. Healthcare is more secure/stable. Your job will survive any economic downturn no matter how bad it gets, but you have to be in it for selfless reasons and every dollar you make will be earned because they'll work your ass off.

2. IT/ComSci is great if you want to make money fast and easy, but job stability/security is questionable.

3. HVAC tradie stuff is also a fairly safe bet....but its work. You'll be hauling and lifting chit and when you get old you'll get tired of it.

Just go where you'd work for each of these and see which you can handle better.

Military is not even really a bad idea.

go in the airforce and have them pay you to learn IT or electronics chit


also study for the ASVAB and get a high score so you can pick what you want. You dont want to be some low IQ waste like a gate guard or cook. you want something that will get you a job outside the military later.

also not a terrible idea. i joined at 25 (navy). Not sure about air force but for navy any CT rate or nuke will make tons of cash. I do aviation electronics and the civilian jobs are decent paying but not as good as those. Nukes in the navy can leave after their contract with like 100k + saved because they have insane recruiting/retention bonuses. then you can easily get a job at a power plant making 150-200k. That is if you don't kill yourself first. It's probably one of the chittiest jobs while in due to their work schedule and you might end up underwater for months at a time.

lol @ making money "fast and easy ASAP" in IT. Good luck getting hired because no one wants to hire entry level newbies and if they do it's only for some grueling software development bs. He'll be competing against hundreds of other applicants for every opening. You'll be lucky to get a position as a customer support bitch just to get your foot in the door in this oversaturated meme field. I have friends who graduated years ago and they are all pissed off because they can't find a damn job after exhausting all their options.

The only way I will ever recommend getting into computer field is through the military where they'll give you experience and clearance. But you gotta serve in the military and deal with that.

If OP doesn't want to do military then trade it is. No college debt, good pay, and they'll take you in with open arms. Also a valuable skill that you can use in real life.

if you dont have direction in your life by 25 its over. you'll just be another 40/50k pleb stuck in the trap.

youre 28 and only THINKING about compsci when there is already a massive wave off nerds fresh outta HS taking that. those tradie options arent very good either. hvac is not a very good paying job and same with eletricians. you wont make much until youre high level journeyman and even then its still only 30/40hr and that could take a decade or two.

All you need to get into IT is the CompTIA+ cert. Google them. Start applying for jobs even b4 u get it. Put that you're good with people.

My dad was an electrician and he and all his friends where ****ing miserable insufferable degenerates who always complained about money

Doing trade work is only a good idea in the big Midwest cities where COL is low and the Union is strong

Running your own real business that makes money is impossible unless you have the money for overhead , a solid crew and the GC connects to win big jobs

You can always run your own service truck but lmao @ competing with Mexican and Puerto Rican migrant prices

Go into tech or IT if you have half a brain

If all else fails try trucking or the USPS lol

Honestly, 28 is about the age I started to make decent money. A good union job with benefits and pension plan blah blah blah, still working there to this day. If you are good with money and make enough, you have plenty of time to have a relatively successful life and nice things. But start making money by 30, or it's all over brah.

I can't reverse time, so it is what it is. My only other options would be roping or being a manchild leech for the foreseeable future, so being a "40/50k pleb stuck in the trap" is a step up.

if i was 28 and in good health, i'd look into the military. either as a career or 1-2 enlistments and learn a trade or skill while there.

when i was 28 i was in the same boat as OP. put my last $20k into a business. 2 years later, my business makes me ~$40k/month
