But my ex was and it made me crazy. Getting lost all the time.

I thought that GPS would be the fix, but I can't say that it was a much better experience for me.

Because the talking lady in the car annoyed the crap out of me. And also because GPS still isn't that amazing- you have to pay attention to what is in front of your face. I couldn't say how many times I would be telling him to turn or exit and he wouldn't because the talking lady didn't say so. Or the times that the talking lady would say to do something when it was too late. Or the times that he would miss a cue for whatever reason and instead of doubling back he would insist on going forward on some new route with no regard to how long that new route would take to travel or if it made any sense at all.




Oh, and odds are good that he would be *constantly* looking at his phone or fiddling with something on the car display or talking to someone on the phone- not just driving the car. Safe to say that being a passenger in a car my ex was driving is something I've never missed at all.




But maybe a sense of direction will eventually just snap into place for you OP.


ETA:In his defense it may have been genetic.

Story time: after we were divorced on one of my trips back to MI I got a ride to the airport from his father who also believes the talking lady above all else.

"Hey D, I think we need to get over. This is the exit for the airport."

Oh it seems too early. The GPS didn't say to exit yet.

"Uh, I'm pretty sure. I've driven to the airport a bunch of times. We need to be in the right hand lane."

So the talking lady pipes in that we need to exit. After we have passed the exit. Sigh...

I wonder how many wrecks are caused by lazy GPS dependent drivers every year now?

I drive a lot for my job, GPS is easy to get the hang of once you understand the limitations. I usually check out the route beforehand and travel second from the right lane on highways. Sucks when it's completely wrong (take 29 N but tells you S.....faaawk) and extremely annoying when it tells you "you have arrived" and it's a mall with 80 different businesses lol.

I get it being a useful tool. It just seems like some people decide that the talking lady means that they shouldn't trust what they see with their own eyes. And that somehow other drivers will just have to deal when you make a dangerous last minute lane change because not missing that exit or turn is so important.

I find the talking lady so annoying I prefer to look at the route in advance and write simple instructions for myself on a notepad. I have a smart phone so I can reassess if I screw up somehow, but locally I usually have a decent idea of where I am going and if I'm traveling a longer distance most of it tends to be highways/interstates.
