Just saw in my email like an hour ago that Ken Block died!! That guy was cool as ****. On par with Colin McRae/Travis Pastrana. Watched all of their stuff. I have the Colin McRae rally game on my PS2. Will upload a picture now.

Died in a snowmobile accident. Man why can't some other retards die, this guy was actually a cool person. I think it was in Fifth Gear where him and Tiff Nadal were seeing who could drift closest to a wall, he was like 1mm away or something stupid like that.

Dave Mirra as well, but his loss was more tragic.

Does anyone remember that fifth gear scene? I just remembered it now. It was awesome.

Yeah, the entire extreme sports scene was basically one of the highlights of 00's and the culture of that decade. Everything about it was so big back then. All the kids were wearing extreme sports branded gear, x-games was the biggest event around, guys like Tony Hawk were the biggest names in the media, and we had tons of great games focused on those activities. All the kids at school would be riding skateboards or BMX bikes, our conversations were usually focused on what cool tricks we have seen or could imagine, our ambitions were on doing fun things and pushing the boundaries of what we could do. Heck even stuff like Snowboarding felt a lot bigger back then. Like that era had it's problems, but looking back it was a lot more fun, and people were trying to have fun and didn't take everything so seriously.

Wow, I didn't know u were into xtreme sports. It was amazing. Used to watch it all day everyday. I still watch it. Even today I was watching it, it was amazing seeing guys do that epic ****. For whatever reason I liked the Motocross/bmx/skateboard/rally stuff, well, I liked all of it haha.

Yeah, all of my brothers friends were into mountain bikes/bmxs and we all wore monster energy/fox racing **** all day. I still have them. Our conversations were like you said, about tricks and **** we saw in the racing sports/xgames scene.

Exactly, in our childhood area there's still fences/pathways/benches etc that are still absolutely destroyed because we were doing tricks/building jumps on them. There was a field where we were building jumps down a giant hill to ride down on our sledges in the snow (We even did this in the summer by mangling the soil haha). That is now a horse field crossed off with chains and from the distance we can see the uneven ground still haha.

Yeah, do u have any videos of any xtreme sports clips you may have liked? Definitely check out nitro circus, it's just xtreme sports fused with jackass haha. Came out like 20 years ago and finished in 2012. Had Travis Pastrana and his epic backyard featured in it.



I still watch this epic **** everyday. This is what I remember being on this insane whole other level. I still watch it before the gym along with dbz.

I wish I was older back then, would've loved to go for these. I did go for a ton of rally shows/monster jam shows when I was younger but that was a long time ago. Now it sucks and the sport isn't that big.

Oh man, Nitro Circus, now that's pretty much when that whole culture converged with the whole jackass scene. I think we all forget how influential and big Bam was right around that time. That eventually blended into the early days of youtube culture and the whole pranking and stunt scene that was big in the era.

But yeah, I feel like all the local boys in my area were all really into extreme sports back in middle school especially. Lots of spots we would always hit up with our BMX bikes, skateboards, and scooters. Heck most of the time I was hanging out with local kids back then was when were just trying to bike or skate around.

But yeah, even today I still enjoy watching extreme sports and find it to be the most enjoyable sporting events.

Yeah I didn't even know that guy died. He had a sick image. He mastered the skill when the sport was still huge. I'm not even sure if it all exists anymore, at least I haven't seen anything. I guess all of the stunts/epic performers have all come and gone which explains why it isn't that big anymore. Everything that was possible has already been done :/

Yeah I guess that's the difference between a rally car and a snowmobile. In a rally car you have a roll cage/seatbelts/significant weight reduction and a co-driver telling you the upcoming turns, you could drive that thing off a cliff and you will likely survive. In a snowmobile, I don't think there's anything? I mean even if you land on snow, the whole vehicle will crush you and you might hit a tree/fall of a cliff or sink under the snow and get lost/die from hyperthermia.

I remember watching the xgames snow sports section. Whenever you'd see the guy doing a backflip/trick on a snowmobile, you always saw him rising up as if he was on a mx bike/bmx. Looks really sketchy/dangerous.

But I don't know. Going by what I've seen, if you swerve/almost crash on a snowmobile, you can just jump off sideways into a soft cloud of snow so I don't get how he unfortunately died from it.

Yes he was, one of the few guys out there who didn't turn crazy when this nonsense world started after 2012/2013ish. In this 2022 era he was still a good person. (I think, I haven't read up about him recently)

Yeah haha, that's what I'm talking about. That culture was huge. I remember my Mum watching this old show called Charmed, I noticed that one of the main lady characters (Piper) was wearing a Travis Pastrana shirt lol. I have that shirt aswell haha.

Yeah, Bam Margera looks insane now, in a bad way. I guess his best friend died and now he's too old to behave like he did in jackass. Definitely, they created all those pranking channels like Roman Atwood and probably that show impractical jokers. Those things were all inline with rules/setup so it wasn't hardcore/crazy. Nothing was like jackass. Do u remember a show called the dudesons or dirty sanchez? They were all very similar EPIC shows that I wish still existed live. Shows like that and jackass had to cut scenes because they were so crazy. Random people would tape them in the street doing insane gross ****.

The sport actually had a big impact on younger guys in a good way. I mean I used to watch all racing/xgames videos on loop for hours wondering how the heck they were so good at this ****. Ken Block/Colin McRae and the other xgames guys got me into rally/all racing sports really early in life. Used to race around in gokarts as a substitute for a f1/rally car. Attempting to cut corners/drive stupid fast like them when I was younger. My parents were great for letting me and my brother have those at the time.

Ah exactly that. Tons of random kids would just emerge from the sides of the roads joining in making jumps out of mud/**** from their gardens. Formed a lot of friendships like that. It was good fun and now people would rather play on a phone/stare at a screen :/

Really? I didn't know they still do xgames stuff anymore. Is it any good? Sports kind of suck now since it's the same year after year. Stuff is all peachy/low energy in this era. F1 is a joke, was awesome before but I don't know where to watch the old 90s footage anymore. (When it was good)

Yeah but the scene should've still lasted. Sports aren't even that big anymore. You never hear a group of guys talking about xgames/rally/f1 or whatever. Everything kind of merged to mainstream and it all died out. Look at how ridiculous bodybuilding is now.

Yeah he was really good at it. His reflexes were insane, just like Colin McRae. Yeah his videos were crazy and he was confident in doing that.

Guys like him were on another level, I mean they were a part of xgames which was xtreme sports. The most talented sportsmen on the planet are in xgames. When he died in that snowmobile accident, he was probably pushing the limits in some way which lead to his death. Probably didn't even realise because it was instinct to pull off crazy/near death stunts. (Even if he was just riding around for fun) I don't think this was a stunt.

These kinds of guys rarely die in their stunts, they just get injured/mangled and recover. Most of these stunt guys die due to unrelated things. Someone mentioned Steve Irwin, he was the crocodile hunter and he died by a sting ray. Greg Plitt was hit by a train. Superman died falling off a horse. Paul Walker from Fast and Furious died in a car driving at a relatively normal speed.

People die in peculiar ways. It sucks when it happens to ultra cool people like the aforementioned guys above. I don't recall watching any of Ken Block's newer things, so luckily his old stuff is still watchable, I am going to watch a bunch of it now.

Yeah lots of these kinds of guys die in unreleated ways. Honestly I haven't heard from him in years. Maybe seen the occasional picture, but I did watch the old videos on youtube, atheist he lived through his prime.
