Anyone here been sent to medical collections?
-Ask insurance what doctor I can go to that is in network and not get a surprise bill
-Go to in network doctor as they instructed
-blood test and piss in cup
-boom, $500 surprise bill
-Reason for the high bill is because the doctor's office is billing "as a hospital" and not a clinic (even though they are not a hospital)
-Already sent to collections before I can do anything about it

You can either negotiate it down and pay it off. Remember that they bought that debt for probably $5-$10.
Or better yet, dispute it. Say it's a mixup or something and call the collections agency every day for at least 2 weeks with REAL ANGER lol. I did this once until they agreed to drop it and take it off my credit.
In my case, it was a bill that they sent to an old address, so I had no clue until it went to collections. I would be at my wagie job and harassing my "agent" 2x-3x/day lol.
Usually, you'd get a lawyer to send them a fukk off letter, but for $500? Hardly worth it.

Next time they call make up a story and make that poor soul listen to you pradle on about how you can't pay the bill because you have back pain and need the money for the pills and that you have money to pay the bill, but it was a lump sum from lottery winnings and that it'll be gone tomorrow because you gotta pay for the back pain pills and child support.
Guarantee you the guy will cave and ask how much you can pay that's when you say "ahhh jeeze dude, i dunno, 5 dollars?" They will 100% accept you paying like 5/mo srs

You have to get them to take it off your credit, if that matters to you.

Tell them to kick rocks unless they take it off your credit report.
Absolutely 0 point in paying it off otherwise.
If you have good credit this will sting, but if its your only ding on your report, it will lessen in a couple years.
No one is suing you for $500.

Medical collections less than 500 dollars aren't supposed to be reported anymore and they are supposed to give you 1 year to settle before reporting. Paid collections should also be removed immediately.
