I think there has been more change in the last couple of centuries than in the previous thousand years or so.

Without checking I think my longest lived grandma was born about 1913.

Imagine going from living on a small farm in rural MO to working in a factory just out of 8th grade, getting married and moving a couple of times for your husband's work [my dad and his brother were born in MO] and landing in a new 1950's era suburb of an area that blew up to millions of people. My dad used to ride his bicycle about 14 miles to the zoo in downtown Fort Worth. Oh, and I think grandpa had a pretty sweet gig during WWII...smart guy who made stuff and he served in Hawaii in some kind of engineering/construction role.

Old people are time travelers, it's just that most younger people don't appreciate it.

They left out that when that generation retired, inflation was running high. That is due in part to President LBJ's big spending programs. So those born in 1900 lived through some of the worst wars in history, worst disease outbreaks, they also saw their retirement funds dry up due to run away inflation in the later 60s, 70s and early 80s.

They were the least lucky generation.

Something the OP glosses over is the fact that someone born in 1900 also got to live through the best time in human history (for Americans at least), 1946- late 60's. They were the strong men that made the good times.

My grandfather was born in January 1900 , lived till 96 . He actually was in the army in both WW1 and 2 .
He thought the second WW was a cakewalk compared to the first , as they didnโ€™t have much in the way of ammunition, and there was a lot of hand to hand combat and using your bayonet.
He said in the second WW it wasnโ€™t up close and personal like the first , as the enemy was further away and you didnโ€™t get as much gore .
You gotta give a man like that credit for all heโ€™s endured, and these kids nowadays beak off and cry about how good their ancestors had it
