The company currently operates roughly 2,800 stores—including some under the Ralphs, King Soopers, and Dillon's brand names—across 35 states, making it the largest supermarket chain in the U.S. But even as a shopping mainstay, customers have begun to take to social media to air their frustration about some locations' lack of items. It wasn't long ago that the COVID-19 pandemic upended how we shop for groceries and household essentials. Supply chain issues brought on by the spread of the virus made barely stocked shelves a common sight, especially for items such as toilet paper or cleaning products. But even as the world has begun to return to normal, some stores are still having issues keeping certain things in stock—including Kroger.

In a YouTube video posted on Dec. 31, user AdventuresWithDanno took viewers on a walk-through of his own local Kroger store to document what was available for purchase and take note of any changes. But the thrifty grocery enthusiast left somewhat surprised by what he found.

"We are at Kroger, and are noticing price increases on groceries, and a lot of empty shelves!" the user wrote in the video's caption. "We are here to check out skyrocketing prices and the empty shelves situation! It's getting rough out here as stores seem to be struggling with getting products!"

I don't have a krogers, but local winco, aldi, target and walmart had quite a bit of shelves empty with food and other items I was going to pick up.

However the big jumps in prices are real and the OOS thing seems to depend on the area of the country right now. Some places are stocked okay and some not so much. I hear more OOS complaints about Family Dollar and Dollar General which are often the only option for groceries in some rural towns. Wal-mart is hit or miss also- some good ones and some awful ones.

I haven't seen it looking as rough as it was during the pandemic and would say my local Kroger is better stocked the last 2 or 3 months. The small Kroger nearest my house had nearly empty freezers and lots of empty spaces for a long time prior to that.

His style is hard to take IMO. Every individual price hike is big news...that Aldi peanut butter went up 10 cents from the last visit. And the woman with him...well she may have some kind of mental deficit.

Just went to a steak restaurant. Menu online from 2019 had my steak for 28.000 pesos, it was 66.000 pesos today.

Eggs were absent from the shelves on monday, even the egg whites in the carton. First time I've ever witnessed a shortage of something I intended to buy.

Another thing I haven't noticed but has been on the news. Supposedly all the childrens aspirin/tylenol has been MIA in store shelves As well as all cough medicine and cough drops are supposedly all sold out.

I think it is kind of s self fulfilling prophecy. People hear there is a shortage of eggs or cough medicine. So everyone subconsiously goes to the store to buy said items, compounding the problem

Also kind of off topic, but they just banned flavored tobacco in california. Though I guess stores are allowed to sell what inventory they have left. Chick in front of me in line at Chevron spent $672 on flavored tobacco products, probably their entire inventory

I got very into coupon clipping when my daughter was an infant to try and save money. There are probably still people out there who keep price books like that and track all the time to calculate what the best price of a season or year will be for any given item. IMO clipping hasn't been worth it for years now. Around 2008 or 2009 the face values dropped, the expiration dates got shorter and most of the grocery stores stopped double/triple coupons.

The last 2 years you don't have to be that attentive to notice the increases as they have been frequent and significant. When you see generic bread go from $1 or $2 up to $3 or $4, frozen pizza zoom up to $8 or even $10, and mayo also hitting around $8 and I heard $10 today - yeah it's pretty freaking hard to miss.

The shortages in over the counter medicines and particularly OTC meds for children is widespread and supposedly this includes China which is where we import most of it from. Heard that China is lacking in some of the raw material for manufacturing the drugs and it was recommended to stock up for a year on OTC medicine that you use in your home.
