Lol @ people who never call into work
Anyone else annoying by the "I don't take days off" sort of people? I mean, do you think the company thinks "wow what a great employee" when you show up with the flu or whatever else?
"I don't take days off"
"I'm a trooper"
"I've taken only 4 days off in my whole career"
"My work is too important for me to miss a day" (except no one outside of your team even knows you exist at work LOL)
"I probably have covid but don't tell anyone"
Probably heard all of these 100 times.

I am a special ed teacher and with the teacher shortage, if I don't show up, the kids get spread around the special ed unit into different classes. Yes, it does annoy me when colleagues take days off (when they are not really sick), as they cannot be replaced and their students get spread around. I don't care. Just because they do the wrong thing, it doesn't mean I should, and it doesn't mean it's ok for the kids to be negatively impacted just because I want a day off.
I think I have something like 50 days or so, and I only take them when I need them.

too many factors to make dumb broad statements like this.
I'd rather work and get my PTO paid
I'd rather load up and have spare in case I need it.
If its a use it or loose it, I haven't heard of anyone not using it. But I wouldn't use it till I have to.
Why would I use PTO for something like a simple covid? I'd much rather save it and use it for when I can use it to my advantage. O no's the sniffles on a wednesday. **** that, push through so I can see thirst traps on a thursday night for a 3 day weekend.

My problem is that my work is based on long term outputs/outcomes. If I have a day off I just have to make it up some other time, on the weekend or whatever.

Once you have kids though it makes more sense to stay at work. And being srs, a lot of places offer you more time off than you can reasonably take and still get your stuff done well. And if you’re doing it right, you probably only take time off to work on something else that is/will make you money, until you’re where you want to be.
