Rate fishing lures I made today misc.

Hand carved out of cedar, then airbrushed. Musky lures. All still need clear protective epoxy coat so the fish's teeth don't destroy them.

A couple aren't quite finished, but you get the idea.

My biggest musky is 52" long.

A 52" fish can eat a 24" fish, so the lures are big.

It's not totally necessary, but musky guys like to brag about the size of their...

There are fb pages dedicated to selling custom musky lures. I've already got a musky shop that's agreed to sell my dtuff, and I have a couple dozen that I have to make for friends etc already.

It's the time it takes to make them that's the issue.

Plus, I like doing it, and it's fun for me. I don't eat it to lose that fun factor, but eventually I'll ramp it up.

Those are clear (knot free) western red cedar , hand carved with polycarbonate lips. I also do stainless steel lips on some.

I've always wondered, is there like a wire frame in there that the hook-rings are attached to? I'd imagine those aren't attached directly to just the wood only.

Figured you eat everything you catch, and nobody eats musky lol.

I make both kinds. Screw eyes and through wire. While screw eyes aren't as strong, many many old tried and true baits used them. Through wires are relatively recent. My screw eyes screw in 2", and are the strongest made. I also epoxy them in.. I've caught many fish on them, and not had a failure.

The bigger lures all are through wired

Musky fishing is just for fun/challenge.

My gushing bud is an old guy and he's eaten musky before. Says they aren't bad.

Biggest pike is around 44". Released. I like em around 5lbs.

They've been caught upwards of 46" here though.

It's rare to get one over 42

Impressive work! Big baits equals big fish. You ever watch the marlingbaits guy on YouTube? You should definitely incorporate bait making into your channel for more views. What reels you using to toss those big plugs?

ayyy Marling baits crew checking in. Seen that dude catch a bass on an unpainted, uncharted block of wood with treble hooks on it. Let me know them bass will bite anything if they are biting aggresively that day and you throw it in the right spot
