Sick of going to my girlfriends family events

I swear they have an event for everything, 3 weekends in a row before Christmas i was dragged to lunches/dinners. Man they're so fkn boring, It's always the same conversations as well, hows work, did you hear about (current mainstream media event) etc etc. Sometimes after a dinner they go back to their house for a coffee which takes another 2hrs of just chit.

I work my ass off and I want to enjoy my weekends off, even when i work Saturday, after work I still have to go to a 1 year old's birthday party and pretend to care.

iv'e been doing this for 5 years now and im just over it tbh

My family see each other once every 4 months and its usually a good laugh we all hang chit on eachother, and then we're out of there after an hour.

anyone else been in the same boat?

Yeah it’s really tough when you have limited free time and it’s always with their family.

It’s worse when you marry into other cultures like Mexicans, Greeks, Middle Eastern, etc.

Hence why relationships are annoying.

yup i hate being forced to got pointless family events like a kids birthday where all I do is fking sit there bored out of my mind being forced to socialize with people i don't even like. no idea how people like this ****

Either convince her to move far away (that’s what I did) or break up because it’s never going to change. Having the same boundaries when it comes to family is a huge necessity for a couple or it’s going to get ugly.

I was hanging out with this middle eastern girl who saw her family almost every night. And was hammering out 25 texts/minute whenever they weren't together. It was exhausting and completely not sustainable.

LMAO. I was in this exact boat about 8 years ago and thats one big reason i left the relationship. Girl had her whole family tree within 2 minutes of driving and the "occasions" were constant. Felt like living a 70 yr old pensioners life at 23, all the coffee sipping at pee paw and mee maws house bullchit. I hated every minute of it (almost, she had one cooky grandad who i didnt mind).

Gots to get the next flight to NC pal, its the only choice you have left.

My wifes family is similar. Wine and cheese nights, etc.

They are great, srs, but it gets to be a bit much.

One good thing is that their cottage in summer is accessible only by boat, so I just jet in my boat and go catch fish when I am bored lol.

Now that I’m married and have young kids I don’t mind it. I’ve been to a one year olds birthday party the past two weekends but these same people show up to my kids parties too so nbd.

My family is mostly worthless so pretty happy I married into a good mostly wholesome family that I can spend holidays with.

You have a bad gf then. Mine doesn't ever make me hang out with her friends or family short of funerals. Maybe I get dinner with her parents once a year but even then it's only dinner at a restaurant and we are out in 45 minutes (and they pay of course). Can't imagine what kind of cuck doesn't have boundaries with his girl.

Yup. I know those feels. Wife-unit always drags me to family stuff.

We are at the point now that she also drags me to my family events. My sisters no longer call or text me, they get in contact with my wife about family stuff.

I love my husband's family, especially my nieces and nephews as they are adorable and make me pictures and cards, but I also needed some quiet time to unwind from being a working Mom so I would pick and choose the dinners I attended after awhile. Feeling obligated to go to dinner 3x a week always felt overwhelming when my family only got together 4x a year for holidays. Then my husband would want to ditch my family's holiday events for his family's and I felt it was totally unfair for me to go to his Mom's house 3x a week and he would only see my family maybe once a year.

It helped when my family started aging so I had that as an excuse, although taking them out shopping wasn't exactly time to unwind and relax with being a working mom.

I guess the Misc and my other forums have been my escape as it looks like I'm working from home to my husband.

Relationships are tough. Many times I just say I want to be alone for the rest of my life so I don't have to deal with these decisions.

Just don’t go ? I’m not connected to my wife at the hip she can spend as much time with her family as she wants but I’ll do once a month max mostly, I’ll happily sit upstairs on my computer when her family are here no ****s given.
