Anyone in the Ohio/WV/PA area?

I just moved here for work. I live in Ohio but work in WV. Outside of work, i dont know anyone but my landlord.

About the town. Its nothing special. Its bigger than my hometown, which was like 20k people. I didnt expect everything to be so densely packed together. It makes sense, since its in the foothills and space to expand isnt all that plentiful I suppose? I also never expected a small area like this to have villages, much less 4 or 5 of them. I would just consider it all one city, but with smaller "areas" on the periphery. I mean, you dont even know you are entering another village (or county for that matter) unless there is a sign.

I will say this though. Ohio roads are effing terrible. There is also less fat/obese people.

Also, if i hear another person say something like "I LOVE your accent!!" or "OMG! Please say that again, just like you did!" I'm gonna really crank up the southerner in me and raise scene. GOnna memorize some scripture verses to use with the insults.

That's not my part of PA, but the "yins" thing stems from German I believe. I am thankful I do not have to hear it as the don't use it in eastern PA.

We have Jawn and yous all day long though.

Lol at Ohio roads. Used to live in MI and it was such a relief to cross over to Ohio, at least as far as the road went.

I noticed fewer obese people in MI than I see here in TX. I sort of figured it was something to do with the cold or maybe because we were in a more affluent area.

Obesity ont he south is probably due mostly to southern cuisine + modern lazy lifestyles. Down there, food portions are big and tend to be cheap. Not to mention how much food is fried

Longhorn. I'm contemplating becoming a corporate trainer. My new boss decided to send everyone through training again, which is fine. I am learning what wasnt taught to me. And 2 of them asked if i was considering being a corp trainer. Its a 5k sign on bonus plus they pay for all mileage, get a per diem for food, they pay for housing for up to 3 months and will fly you if you dont want to drive. Problem is, you arent a manager, but are bound to manager rules. So i couldnt even hang out with hourly employees outside work. The company, if they find out, will conduct and investigation and might even hire a private detective to look into to you.

I know rest. workers tend to be promiscuous. Thats not me. though, i enjoy the attention I get. I'm the biggest guy in my store and constantly get people commenting on it

Yes, Yins is Pittsburgh which is a much different culture than in Eastern PA.

I researched it and it's supposed to have German accent origins.

Jawn is a black slang and it's a catchall for anything. It's like "thingamajig" or "whatchamacallit" and can be said in many different ways.

So, "Hand me that jawn" could mean "screwdriver" if you are fixing something. A person might say, "What's going on up in this jawn" which means a crazy situation.

There's an injury lawyer named "John Morgan" and on his signs, it says, "Call Jawn Morgan!" so it's used very humorously as well.

White people who are very tough also use it.

Wheeling? I know some who live there.

Minor league hockey team I think.

My superficial thought is there's a little potential, though I'd look to transform the environment a little by getting into religion or some project since it seems probably not 100% developed.

PA but about 40 miles from NJ so not close to were you are. We have a different accent and everything over on this side. People from Western PA sound like they are from the south.

"Yinz" is a Pittsburgh thing. "You guys" is the official OH language

Not much out that way where you are at, but it's beautiful in the summer. Also we are experiencing a very mild winter FYI so enjoy.
Our state changes drastically depending on where you travel to. Where you're at is a totally different vibe than the western part of the state (all flat farmland), and the major cities are also a totally different experience/type of people.

Going to go out on a limb and guess you are in the oil and gas industry. Lots of money to be made in that.

I had done work in NEPA in the early 90s and it was a very plesant place with lots of Polish people. It seems that everyone moved away and insane black and Dominican people moved in.

Hazelton used to be an old folks town, and now it's druggies, hookers, and Dominicans.

I was mindblown.

I live about 10 minutes outside of Hazleton. Lots of good looking Dominican women tho. Lol. I signed up at planet fitness specifically for that. Go to my local gym tho more often. Dominicans are really the only people doing anything business wise in the town tho. The locals are all stuck in the 50’s.

That is crazy.

I had a relative who did a scientific study on this type of "screwworm" in the Dominican Republic and he loved the people there.

He lived with a doctor who had armed guards with machine guns guarding his house because the people are savages.

They are HEAVILY involved in drugs in Hazleton though.

Probably most of the businesses were started with drug money there. Obviously not all, but I know many people, especially white girls from the area who got set up and wrecked by these people.

I knew a BEAUTIFUL girl from Hazleton who was Hispanic, her mom sold drugs, her brother used to f@ck her, she got gangraped by school mates, and turned out to be one of the biggest drug dealers in Wilkes-Barre.

She was lesbian after all of that....who thought I was cute, lol.

Anyway, all of those people ruined the whole area.

In the 90s none of that existed and it was a happy land of Polish, Irish, and Italians with great food and fantastic nightlife. All of that is DEAD and the whole area is not bouncing back until global warming makes NEPA tropical.

Did you grow up there or move there?

How do you like living in the area?
