My guess is that they will be pushed into the background of history until it's like, oh yeah, that moon thing happened, and no one asks about it.

All of the guys who made it through all of the trials and became named astronauts in "The Right Stuff" were Uber Alpha, (John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, etc) also not to forget Chuck Yaeger. And the actors who played them, as well. Ed Harris, Sam Shepard, Dennis Quaid, Fred Ward... That's just a few, and I am leaving out a few, so as not to single in or single out anybody. Kim Stanley was an incredibly under-recognized/under-rewarded actress, as well.
