Do health benefits from eating veggies stem from the veggies themselves?

Or rather the fact that you're automatically consuming more fibre and less calories, less cholesterol, saturated fats, sodium, etc? Seeing as something like lettuce is pretty much void of nutrients. If that's the case then it's quite misleading to propogate vegetables as a health food.

Lettuce has nutrients like Vitamin K, folate, etc. Not all Veggies contain the same vitamins or minerals content. Some have higher content of certain vitamin or minerals than others. Veggies are packed with minerals and nutrients your body needs that you can't get from Meat, and Meat has stuff you cant get from fruits and veggies. Thats why an Omnivore diet is best and just eliminate processed foods and junk. and eat natural.

I still feel like the degree to which they recommend people eat fruits and vegetables is way over the top and aimed at fat fuks who just need to eat less calories first and foremost. like who actually eats five portions of fruits and vegetables every single day like they say you should?

They’re full of antioxidants, fiber and vitamins.

Pretty much every nutritionist and health organization (e.g. AHA) recommend that we eat moar fruit and veggies.

That’s been my New Years Resolution.
Instead of lettuce I use darker greens for my salad.

Fiber isn’t an essential nutrient. It’s essential for slowing colon digestion so that it can absorb the nutrients from the food you just ate.

fibre? sure. vitamins and antioxidants? eh. some more, some less. coffee has a fukton of antioxidants too, but they don't recommend you drink 5 cups of coffee a day. again bringing me back to my conclusion that the whole deal with vegetables is mostly about eating less calories from chit food and more fibre like you said.

eating a truckload of vegetables everyday fills you up and therefore people eat less chit food and lose weight.

Micronutrients are extremely important.

If you don’t get enough besides never achieving close to “optimal” health

You might also end up like mariomiami, and have you seen that guy? Absolute freak.

seen one of those weirdos Rogaine has on the other day they were talking about this.

They were saying they dont really know the reason it works..... but they think the "antioxidant" theory is bogus because antioxidants dont really do anything if they give them to you in pure form.

Its probably just because its filling you up with low calories, some vitamins, fiber and helps your cholesterol

Lmao good luck with that you will get salmonella and botulism, I hope you joking bro.

you do realize the nutrients from the soil are already in the veggies? the veggies use the nutrients from the soil so when you eat the veggies you eat the minerals too, some veggies lose nutrients if you over cook them, but also some activate more nutrients when you saute or steam them, you need to cooke veggies to also help digestion because a lot of them are hard to break down in raw form or can be bad for you if they are in raw form.

Dark, leafy greens are the most nutrient-rich of all fruits and vegetables. Most of the top nutrient-dense fruits or veggies are dark leafy greens.

Iceberg lettuce is not that great. Romaine is somewhat better. Neither one is DARK leafy greens, however.

The absolute #1 nutrient-dense fruit or vegetable is Watercress. Other ones that are up there are Kale, Chard, and most other dark leafy greens.

Fruits are good for you too, yes. But rank considerably lower, overall, in being nutrient dense. However, they can give you things that vegetables usually don't. Fruits help balance out a good diet.

Good post repped

I also love Bell Pepper is one of the best, they are filled with anti cancer nutrients. more vitamin C than an orange too and can be eaten raw or cooked.

my favorite fruit is Kiwi its very nutrient dense.

Northern Europe and Canada. Sea buckthorn berries are edible (often not eaten raw), healthy, and very nutritious. They are often used to make juice, tea, jam, puree, sauces, pies, ice cream. As well as cosmetics, moisturizing body lotions, and their oils are used for treating hair and skin.

Fiber is actually one of those rare things that directly correlates with longevity and there is a dose dependant relationship (the more you eat it the longer you live). Now you know.
