I know you like older movies, but I wasn't sure if you liked the silent ones.

I have not seen this movie since I was a little kid on Halloween night at my aunt's house. It scared the living sh!t out of me.

Of Course Conrad Veidt's performance was the inspiration for Joker's look in Batman.

Perhaps I ought to give it a proper watch...

I will try to check that out tomorrow.

I thought of you when I read about that movie and the actor. His Wikipedia is really interesting, and he died fairly young.

Apparently the movie wasn't necessarily intended to be scary:

Yes especially when you're 7...lol

But yeah. It seems more like The Elephant Man than a horror movie.

The Elephant Man scared the chit out of me. Haha. I was pretty young when I saw that, too.

Interestingly, Mel Brooks produced that, uncredited so people wouldn't anticipate the film being a comedy.

Smart move I think. haha.

And if you're on an old movie kick and haven't seen Freaks (1932) yet, check that out. Its a horror film, but not in the way you'd expect.

That looks really interesting. Especially from the wiki. Lon Chaney has a real interesting bio, too. ("Both of Chaney's parents were deaf and, as a child of deaf adults, Chaney became skilled in pantomime.")

The truth is, I've never given older movies much of a chance, but you've inspired me before to go outside of my comfort zone. I'll definitely try to check out the aforementioned movies.

Yeah Chaney had quite a story I saw a pretty good documentary about him that was fascinating.

I couldn't find Freaks on youtube, but its on hbomax if you have that. It was made by Todd Browning the same guy who directed Dracula (1931)

I'm a fan of the silent area and I loved this movie so much. Conrad Veidt's performance was just amazing. His look was better than any other joker we've ever had.

I think it's a masterpiece.
