Company is trying to low-ball me on salery
I have been interviewing with a tech consulting company for a senior sales role 200k+ OTE.
They liked my CV, had stage1 interview with sales manager, stage2 interview with other department folks and then in person panel interview/presentation. All went well.
Head hunter girl says they loved my presentation but think I'm not experienced enough for the senior role. I say they could have told that from my CV and not waste my time.
She says they want to hire some boomer with 20years experience. And now they want to offer me standard sales schmuck role for 160k OTE.
I ask who are the clients/prospects for this role. She says it's the same clients.
I say wow this sounds more like they're trying to low-ball me into doing the exact same job for less money. Asked her to provide overview on how the new role differs from senior in terms of sales target and to set up a call.
Gonna ask these fukks straight up why they're trying to low-ball me and not pay me as advertized.

Someone’s got to pay for it.

Yeah I think that this might be a strategy they use to sell you on getting paid less - like a bait and switch?
They bait you in with a senior role and then they say some sh*t about how you're 'not that good' and then offer you less for what becomes the same amount of work.
I've had this happen to me before where they make it out like somebody with 'more experience' would get paid more and in my head I'm like, anybody with more experience than me would be getting paid MORE than you'd ever offer, since they wouldn't apply for this role.

I've had some girl once try and sell me a junior role when my experience was already higher than the 'senior role' I'd initially applied for if we could call it that, so they could offer less money... just noped out of there.
She asked me some dumb sh*t like, "how do you learn" and I'm like wtf "i just read and memorize" - how the fuk do u think I have a Bachelor of Science.
I've had other interviewers ask me stupid sh*t lke "why are you the best for this role" and I'm like, "you'd have to decide that your self since only you can compare and contrast between the individuals applying for this role".. being 'the best' creates a duality which requires comparison, so how the fugg can I tell you without just talking nonsense?
Just remember that the people interviewing are often not as bright or as clever as you are OP - sometimes lip service gets you better jobs than does hard work and intellect.

As you said, they could have known how long you have worked from the CV alone without wasting your time or theirs.
If you are content with your current job, keep it. Red flag if they are kicking things off like this at the new company.

also before anybody calls me out for autism for saying that at an interview - think about what it's like working for somebody who hires you based off of your own self-aggrandizing explanation on why you're 'the best' in comparison to a bunch of mysterious candidates (presumably) also think they are 'the best' without knowing their competition - like this is kindergarten and you've just completed a crossword puzzle before anybody else, so you get a sticker that says *The Best

I got played like this, fellsbad. Though it was my first job out of uni and was getting desperate. Was also in the area I was aiming for, so just took it. Realized after , could have got 30k more.
Negotiating with these *******s really sucks, next time I'm interviewing I'm just going to give a ridiculous number like 50k above market upper bounds.

This sounds like a bad employer.
i worked for a bad employer yrs ago.
i started at X$ and was supposed to be raised to X$ as i learned the job.
first eval i listed all the chit i did for the company to get their network infrastructure updated, working more efficiently and the significant drop in network downtime compared to when i first started.
my boss pointed out it took me a week to write a server side perl script to handle form input on their website.
i wasn't even fuk'n hired to do web programming.
I was hired as a network administrator.
so no raise.
i saw exactly where this job was going.
nowhere.
this was my first IT job.
i was originally commercial electronic repair but the industry had shifted from board level repair to just swapping out boards.
you don't need an electronics degree to do that.
So i switched to IT
anyways they at least paid for my Windows NT certification classes so soon as those were done i started applying and ended up at my current job making twice as much.
been here about 20 yrs and happy with my job and my pay.

Considering you can't spell "salary", I believe they are accurately pricing you.

You are quoting OTE, not salary.
What is the difference in basic and commision structure?
I'm willing to bet the basic isn't that much lower between the two roles and they don't think you will sell enough for the higher OTE in the senior role.

Not only are they lowballing you for the position, they're literally doing this in a highly inflationary economic time which should include a salary to reflect that.
Imagine how greedy these companies are to lowball people in a position during a time period devaluing the currency at a record pace.
