anyone here quit caffeine [reps]

day 4 of cold turkey

past 2 days have had 2 decaffs per day, first two was literally nothing

first day was horrible, the most splitting headache I have ever had srs...

however, since day 2 I have been waking up naturally before my alarm clock quite early and have this strange feeling where I feel my sleep was much more refreshing than when I drank 2-4x coffees or monster zeros per day; however, I feel groggy throughout the day because I guess it is the withdrawal still

is it better on the other side? srs

I've taken 2 caffeine pills (in lieu of drinking coffee) every day for the past 20 years or so. I really want to get off of them. The withdrawl pain and the lethargy is gonna be a bitch though. I'll probably need to plan it around time off from work or something. Luckily I read it doesn't take that long for the symptoms to subside regardless of how long you've taken it.

If you can make it 10 days it will be reset.

The reason you feel better is because of how the brain chemistry works.

Caffeine plugs up a receptor that switches you from “feel tired to feel awake”
Instead of having a bunch of damaged receptors where you feel caffeine doesn’t work as good anymore (like other drugs) your brain actually creates more “feel tired” receptors for the caffeine to hook into.

So people who drink lots of caffeine literally feel much much more tired than people who don’t.

10 days and brain should fix itself tho.

no tea, no soda, no chocolate or any deserts that contain cocoa
How much caffeine is in decaf coffee? Decaffeination removes about 97% or more of the caffeine in coffee beans. A typical cup of decaf coffee has about 2 mg of caffeine, compared to a typical cup of regular coffee, which has about 95 mg of caffeine.
agree, not the same as 0 mg but it is quite hell of a taper reducing it by 97%

hopefully you are right

some literature on the process
Withdrawal from caffeine causes mild to clinically significant distress and impairment of normal functioning. The severity of symptoms vary from individual to individual, and most commonly include a headache, fatigue, decreased energy/activeness, decreased alertness, drowsiness, decreased contentedness, depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and feeling foggy/not clearheaded. The severity of symptoms varies from mild to extreme. The incidence or severity of symptoms increased with increases in the daily dose. Still, abstinence from low doses, such as about one small cup of coffee per day, also produced symptoms of withdrawal.

Some studies have shown that the incidence of a headache is about 50%, and the incidence of clinically significant distress or functional impairment is 13%. Typically, the onset of symptoms starts 12 to 24 hours after caffeine cessation, peaks at 20–51 hours, and may last up to two to nine days.

One study has demonstrated that caffeine withdrawal occurred after as little as three days of caffeine exposure, with a somewhat increased severity of withdrawal observed after seven or 14 days of exposure.[8]

Yes, around 15 years ago. I was drinking around 5-6 cups of coffee a day. The way I did it was to switch to black tea, then after a few weeks I switched to green tea, then I switched to caffeine-free herbal/fruit tea. I had no side effects, no withdrawals. Haven't had caffeine since and don't miss it at all.

I typically take 2 200mg pills throughout the day. And then I drink a bunch of diet soda. So someday I prob have quite a bit. But my job is pretty active so maybe I need it?

Wednesday I had a monster late and I couldn't get to sleep. Thursday came around and I fell asleep early

I try not to go over 400mg of the pills. I've read 400mg you should be pretty good. But what I drink Def. Puts me over that

However, on sat. And Sunday i take 0. Except for my drinks

I don't feel like I Jones for it or anything. If I felt like I "had" to take it I think I would stop

I'm thinking because of my job I might not be as affected. 12,000 steps as a baseline is apt and thats before even getting to the work

The best thing about quitting caffeine is to enjoy tea! Yes tea also has caffeine but much lower plus tea tastes great.

I come off all the time for like 2 months.

I came off of it 2 weeks ago. The difference is I learned years ago from my first time coming off caffeine that you have to taper. So I tapered down and had no symptoms besides being a bit tired and an addiction to the sweetness of energy drinks.

Feel amazing right now tbh. Don't have the energy high from the caffeine, but don't have the lows. Waking up is extremely easy now. Pretty crazy right?

would you say you have more energy overall though?

I think it is worth it

when you said you came off all the time for 2 months does that mean you came off and relapsed roughly after 2 months? if so, what were the mistakes

Caffeine is just my one vice. So I routinely come back to it. I really shouldn't, but I do and just make sure to take a few breaks a year so I'm not just stimmed out of my mind every year.

It's the same thing. I come off, after 2 weeks I feel like a new person and vow to never drink caffeine again because each passing week I feel better.

The most noticeable things are that I feel much more clear headed, my energy is even throughout the day, much calmer, and waking up is easier. It's honestly much better than being on caffeine in a general sense. Digestion is better also.

The only downside is that on caffeine you get that high energy feeling and the giant productive push if needed. That's the addictive part along with the sweet flavoring of energy drinks (for me).

One day I do intend to quit or at least test a full 6+ months.

I quit every couple of months for a few weeks.

I average 150-200mg of caffeine a day.

The week before I take a break, I drop down to 100mg of caffeine a day with 200mg of theanine. This really smooths out the transition and I don't have withdrawal headaches when I stop.

Mirin; so I guess I should crack on having 2-3x decaffs until I purge myself.

I also have the same problem with Monster Zeros - love the sweet taste but they trigger a craving for actual sweet (think ice cream, donuts etc) food.

I still feel **** at day 4 but hopefully it will be normal soon.

Yea I take a week to taper off, then it takes about 7-10 days to start really noticing your energy to seep back in. I notice it at 2 weeks is where I feel like I fully restarted and am full of natural energy.

Good luck boyo.

started keto as well so hold me boyo

anyway, do you recommend I do the caffeine taper at all, given that I already started the "cold turkey" (cold turkey with 3x decaffs but it is almost the same as 97% of the caffeine is gone);

Lmao I started keto at the exact same time again. Weird synchronicity brah.

Yea just go cold turkey at this point since you got over the initial barrier.

Just vary up your drinks all the time to take care of the taste addiction.
