Renters referring to the property as 'My Home'

I noticed a lot of renters, especially the ones facing eviction always refer to their rented property as "my home".

I have lived here 23 years it's "my home".

Please sign the petition as I am being evicted from "my home".

Landlord wants move in their family member into "my home".

Have you seen this anywhere else in the world? I certainly haven't

Next time I go to Hertz I'm gonna rent "my car".

It is their home, it's just not their house. It's the landlords house, but not the landlords home.

That's not to say that I think the fact that it is currently their home means that it's their home indefinitely and the the landlord can't do what they want with their house like in your examples

In my mind you don't own the house until you've paid for it in full. I've had a mortgage since I was 19 and 13 years later am still paying it off. My ownership percentage on the house grows as the banks diminishes every payment I make, but if I were to sell tomorrow I would have to pay them out their share. Meaning they own part of it.

When people say "I bought a house" they didn't actually buy the house, they paid a deposit and borrowed a chit ton of money off the bank. Unless of course they did pay for the house in full right off the bat.

I actually make a mental note to say "your home" to all of my tenants as a form of respect. Keeps those rent checks coming in.
