Can't find the home improvement thread so just asking here.

I'm going to be putting in a new driveway this year, my sewer pipe is original with my house so its 40+ years old. We had a neighbor who got a new driveway and then had to dig it up to replace sewer line like a month later.

I'm planning to replace or re-line the sewer line before I do the driveway. I was going to get it re-lined with that epoxy stuff but everything I'm reading on line says its the same price as just digging up the sewer and replacing the pipe directly and either option costs 50-200 dollars per foot.

This seems like a bit of a scam since the sales pitch used to be that it was cheaper to re-line the pipe.

So... what should i do?

In. Ive heard relining is cheaper.

Relining is much cheaper when the sewer line is in a building.

Outside I'm not so sure. I'd rather have green pvc installed if the price is the same.

this is kind of the same place i'm at and why I want to make sure i do it before the drivway.

i would have it all dug up and replaced properly if prices are somewhat similar, why leave questions right?

I’m not sure how they re-line it but I’m assuming they clean it really well and then insert a camera afterward? If not, it seems like they could line over a hump or something that could potentially lead to a clog. If it’s pvc I’d be less worried but if it’s terracotta, I’d be worried that roots or something cracked it. I’d just put new pipe in. If you go that route, bury a wire with it so you can locate it easier in the future.

one downside is i will likely have to mess with a retaining wall that the sewer runs under among a few other things. **** I may try and do the excavation myself
