Question about the military
Can you go to college for 4 years and take ROTC, join the navy as a Lieutenant, then retire after 20 years and re-enter civilian life? How much would your pension be?

Google it f@gg0t. It's not the greatest pension, but you'll have healthcare for you and your family for life. If you're smart with your finances, and dont buy stupid sh!t like every other service member with cars with high interest rates and tattoos, you should be pretty comfortable for the rest of your life. Then you can work on a second career and have two sources of income. The catch is Uncle Sam owns you for 20 years and you will sort of have a dysfunctional home life being away a lot. (Ded fkn Srs)

After 20 years, retirement pay is 50% of "high 3" (average salary over the highest three years of pay). More years, higher percentage.

Its easy to figure out for the most part.
It will be about half your monthly base pay minus taxes.
So just look at a pay chart and it a rank you will probably be and divide that in two.
I retired after twenty years as an enlisted guy and make about $1500 a month take home a month. I retired a while ago too. Plus medical and dental is paid out of that. Its not a lot for those but well worth it. Medical is like $28 a month or something like that and I can go anywhere and its pretty much covered.
This isnt a mountain of money by any stretch but when I look for a job, I go in already making $1500 a month and with full medical benefits that practically no one else there has.
This half months thing changes all the time depending on when you join. Some get high three but it pretty much works out the same for the most part.
I started drawing a pension at 38 just to give you some perspective. not many other guys that age getting one.

"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay 20 - and I'm not, so it's been good for me. Matches up to 5% into my tsp.

You can. Some retirees have hard time transitioning to civilian jobs. Depends on what you did in military and can it directly apply to a company like tech jobs.

Twenty years will go by fast.
After that, you have, as the one poster said, 1500 coming in as retirement. So, that's free rent or a house payment forever.
So, you would never have to pay for rent again, because you were in the military.
However, life is all about doing what you enjoy because if you don't you are wasting your life.
So, only do it if it sees like something you would think is cool and enjoy.
