Company released 2023 Raise..........Aight Ima Head out
Company sent out the email yesterday that our MAX raise potential this year will be........3%......and that will be based off of our Yearly Performance Evaluation. Boss says he's going to push for at least 6.5% to keep up with inflation, but he's not in the "inner circle" of the higher ups, so they ain't gonna go for it.
-Smaller company...let than 80 people
-Best year for Revenue in company history....broke $300M
-Highest Gross & Net Profit in company history
-On track to break $500M in Revenue this year...profit following.
-Not hiring new people, continuing to spread who they have thinner and thinner.
-Raise last year was supposed to be 12%, we talked about 12%, they were good with 12%......paperwork came back and they Approved 8%. I made a thread about this and how I refused to sign it.
That's all I needed to hear.......I've been here 5 years......time to head out.

Holocaust denial is illegal in over 18 countries. if an organized killing of jews happened so definitely, why would people need to serve prison sentences for questioning it?

This is really common across a lot of industries. Companies are trying to squeeze every ounce they can out of employees and not increasing budgets at all and not realizing that right now, they need to sacrifice profits a bit more for retention.
If I was making 100k and they offered to raise it to 103k when they just had their best year in company history I'd laugh in their faces. Especially when inflation is up 10%. That's an extra $140 a month after taxes.
My girlfriend works in insurance and one of their competitors recently had 20 people just quit - on the same day - because they refused any pay increase while not increasing budget to hire more people to offset workload. I have no idea how companies think they are going to retain staff.

Company is growing like a weed in summer and they are just not hiring....and they cant get people to come on because they are currently below the industry average for the areas we have projects.
.....In the last year I went from managing Budgets & Schedules for $60M (8 jobs) worth of projects up to $247M (14 jobs) and my salary increased by 8%. On the other side of things....I currently make 2.5X the average HOUSEHOLD income in my area...so I don't make bad money.
This is turning into a Deer Diarrhe

How would you expect us executives to get our 35% bonuses if we gave out huge raises to the plebes?

In the last 2 weeks they've fired 1 VP, 2 Directors and a Operations Manager with no intentions of hiring new ones.....it's part of the "Company Restructuring"...now all departments split under 3 "Operational Managers" and something just seems kind of fishy....like this could be conflict of interests, slightly illegal, lets hope we never get audited, fraud might be happening fishy.

The cold hard truth is, you can see your value and all the projects & budgets you managed but the top boys & girls doesn't give a fook. You won't be missed and they will easily move on without you. The only mindset to keep when quitting is you're doing it for yourself not to "punish them." I've seen people go from entry level position from ground up in a small office to c level management, 500+ heads in a multi billion $ company and the only thing they said after 10 years is "thanks, bye"

Your company is setting itself up to be merged or acquired.
Ask for stock options or employee owned shares instead of raise.

I know in the long run I wont be missed, but short term they're going to be hurting....I manage 55% of the project budgets & Schedules for the whole company....the other guys in the company that do what I do are too loaded to take on more and I know when they go looking to replace me it's going to take a while and they are going to be scrambling b/c of the clients I have are not going to be understanding if there is any fall off (Think top 2 tech firms, yep both of them)....they have been "trying to hire" another one of us but nobody is accepting the offers b/c they are too low.

If you can get a new job that is better, then might as well go for it brah
If every company is doing this, though, then the companies you'll be looking for a job at will also be skimping you on pay, no? Or do you think only some companies (maybe half) are engaging in this practice, and the other half are giving 10% raises every year?
I think the job market has been pulling back from where it was a couple years ago, employees are losing leverage against their employers IMO. If you can find a better opportunity then take it, but those better opportunities are going to become more slim at the same time as promotions/raises start drying up
Also, I've noticed that most remote job positions on LinkedIn get 100+ applicants within days... it seems like the tables have turned slightly from 2 years ago (srs)

So the business is doing great, working their staff hard, and says they won't keep you up with inflation?
I don't know if it is worth it depending on other job opportunities in the area, but it seems like you could push back on this if it was done as a group. 3% isn't a raise- it's a pay cut. Maybe a letter saying X% by this date or we might all have a bad case of exhaustion and call in sick. At least 7% because that isn't even a raise, that's barely keeping up with official inflation.
It isn't like they are struggling to maintain their own margins, though I can understand a desire to keep staffing lean and labor expenses low heading into a likely downturn. Okay, you don't want to have to lay people off and think you will keep some "dry powder" by giving a few pennies now and a few pennies [maybe] later, at least to your key people. But less than half official inflation as your *top* raise for your best performer? C'mon.

If I'm just trucking along, doing my job and not much changes year over year, yea I get it the standard 2-3% "COL" raise is fine....I don't expect more money for doing the same thing year over year. But for the company to completely ignore individual situations and just lay out a flat "this is the max you can get this year" blanket raise is unacceptable, especially given the other factors affecting the company in regards to revenue/profit.
I do make great money for the area I live and I work from home, but I'm starting to see the direction things are going in the company, the top is getting greedy, it's not the same environment it was 3-4 years ago and I think it's time I move on.

ALWAYS switch companies ever 2-3 years at the most unless youβre pretty high up. Most companies are terrible at retaining staff and donβt care if it hurts them in the long run because all the CEOs care about is short term performance and the easiest way to get that is to cut costs
