Yo you phuckers are almost all older than me and are CEO 10K/day so I need your help

Im interviewing with a few different companies rn for summer positions (law school-cel)

Company 1: Very strong company in my area. Huge fish in a small pond type of organization. They are all over the Northeast so, offices in big cities etc.

Company 2: Good company in NYC, biggest pond of all time and is not a top company but it is reputable nonetheless. Also aligns with my work interests better. Also in the City where I want to be for the next few years.

Company 1 gone through 2 interviews, both went great. Good chance they will offer. Problem is, they don't generally allow for much time to make a decision. 48 hours or so.

Company 2 offered me an initial interview which I'm stoked about. I am a great interviewer and am confident I'll make it past the first round.

Company 1 should be sending out their offer soon, but just around the time I start interviewing process with Company 2.

Should I cash in the bird in hand or hold out?

Cliffs:
- 2 companies, one is overall better than the other for OP
- Company 1 may offer OP job but small window to accept
- OP just started interviewing with Company 2 that is better
- Take the Company 1 offer or say no and hope Company.2 works out?

I've never been in the line of work with offers etc, but is there not a way you could accept company 1 offers first and if company 2 pans out just nope out of the signed offer?

I thought of this. It seems really tarded to break a signed agreement with a law firm. Also, small pond, dont wanna piss off the big guy. These are summer positions so def dont want to damage reputation if I find myself in the area for a bit longer.

Say you wait on company 2 and don't get an offer. Do you have a back up plan?

Not all money is good money. the more jobs you have on your record the worse. things always have a chance of going sideways no matter where you work. bosses can fire you then lie about you or blackball you and next thing you know you wish you'd never taken the job in the first place. some company's nowadays are so utter chit - they only get away with it because the "pay" is so good.

wait for the great job, fuk anything in between.

I have about 40 active applications to other firms, some better than Company 2 and some worse than Company 1. I expect by March to hear back (yes/no) from all the rest.

These are the two companies in front of me as of today. 55 applications, 12 rejections, 2 interviews, waiting to hear back from 40 or 41 places.

The backup plan would be hoping one of the 40 materializes.

I don't know the likelihood of being able to latch on to one of those but I like the sounds of your odds. I would wait for Company 2 if you really think it is that much better.

choose whichever job youd be happier with. if you have to work at mcdonalds for two weeks while waiting for the better job then do it.

1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

It all depends on one thing: Your knowledge about the interview process at company 2. If you think it's probable that company 1 will give an offer, around a similar (within 2 weeks) time of the potential for company 2 giving you an offer.... then yes accept and if it comes to be the offer from company 2 is in your favor, take it and tell company 1 you're taken (they might even renegotiate your offer).
