I hear it’s being overhyped. Train derailments happens often and this is a standard way of disposing of chemicals.

Just think about the poor railroad company that would have lost even more revenue had they taken the time to dispose of the waste properly.

As I understand the story at this time:

- train was on fire before the derailment

- railroad company was the party which pushed for a controlled burn of the material instead of removing to new tanks

- nearby residents were evacuated, but later told to come back because it was safe

- except it wasn't safe and the area has been declared a Superfund site

- there have been attempts to get residents to sign waivers and to have testing done by untrustworthy parties
