Anyone have experience with hypoallergenic cats? 200k reps

I am allergic to cats but I want a kitten or two. I have a doggo and he could use a friend. Of course I'm considering another doggo too. Perhaps even both.

What kind of cats actually are non allergenic and has anyone had personal experience with one? The last thing I want is to get one and still have allergy problems. For me it's bad, stuffy nose, watery eyes, the works. I'm sure they are fairly expensive which isn't a big deal but I'm also not about to pay 10k for a kitten either.

Don't even really know where to start since I have never had a cat. I am in NJ, if anyone knows any resources in the area or something.

I don't have personal experience. Look into hairless breeds perhaps. Maybe this will help?

Doesn't exist. They all have fur & create dander-short hairs not as much, but will still produce.

My old roommate had two cats, one cat triggered asthma, the other didn't. The one that didn't had shorter hair. I'd say I was still mildly allergic to it, but not nearly as bad.

Yeah, this is what I'm reading as I look into it.

I'd probably have to go be in a room with the cat to make sure I don't get too bad idk. Last thing I want is to get a cat and not be able to keep it.

I have a snow lynx bengal, which are considered hypoallergenic. But if you want a lap cat, they aren't for you.

Also, I read that cat allergies are from their saliva not fur

My wife is highly allergic and the Sphynx doesn't bother her at all. He still has the protein in his saliva, but they don't have hair to groom and shed.

We also have a Siberian. It causes her minimal allergy issues. This is a known thing. They produce less of the protein than most breeds. They also have incredible personalities.

Same as above. Had a bengal, theyre considered hypoallergenic i believe. He still made dander and the like, just a chit ton less of it and it didnt really bother me.

Bengals are supposed to be quite hypoallergenic.

I'm not allergic myself so hard to know, but my dad is extremely allergic to cats, but my bengal hasn't set off his allergies once in 7 years (but i don't live with my parents so it isn't constant exposure)

Lolz.

I've always had pretty horrible allergies and had to take stuff daily. But will say that it didnt change too much even after the Bengal was no longer around. I never really saw much fur of his around either, even in the places he normally hung out.
