How expensive is it to own a car from the '40s?

Assuming it is in good condition already.

I like the look of them but dunno if it is impossible to get parts or if they are even driveable on the freeway.

Considering parts don't exist everything will have to be custom fabricated. So if you have your own metal shop, not very expensive.

Once you get into classic cars, it opens up an amazing world. A 1940's car will be hard work to maintain and even drive but there are passionate people and owner clubs catering for nearly ever model made. I run two 1960's cars and absolutely love looking after and driving them. Spared aren't always a problem, some clubs get hard to find parts remanufactured.
