Honestly, looking at the footage JBJ has released so far, he is either slow or not showing everything. Having said that, I have no fkin clue how this fight goes. There are too many question marks after 3 years off and before Reyes he had a year off as well.

Gane is a similarly freak athlete but doesn't have that ring rust and is used to this weight class. I might have to side with bon gamin as a slight favourite unless JBJ comes in fresh with takedowns and grinds out a 5-rounder.

this is the hardest fight to predict of all time IMO. You have the best looking heavyweight we've seen but lost his fight to ngannou from wrestling, vs the greatest fighter of all time that has good wrestling but moving up a weight class, didn't have great recent performances and ring rust

thing is I don't agree with people saying Jones is going to take him down easy. People are forgetting just how massive Ngannou is and Ganes just wasn't expecting it

I think Gane has far better striking than Jones, but Jones has the better fight IQ and wrestling.

There's a lot of questions that won't be answered until fight night, mostly about Jones. He had a long layoff, new weight class, didn't look great last couple fights, etc

That being said, i got Jones. Gane got outwrestled by Ngannou (lol) and Jones has always been top g, undefeated, GOAT at lhw. He fuked up DC twice, even though it was lhw

The frenchman is going to wave the white flag imo. Jones will school him unless he gets caught or freak injury

Bet the fuking house

Jon's body of work is clouding people's judgement. He hasn't looked impressive since 16/17. I think he's going to look like exactly what he is, a once great fighter at the end of his career. I really don't think the move to HW was smart. He could've come back to 205 and become champ for the 4th time and retired on top in a couple of years. At HW, he has lost all the physical advantages that made him great at 205. Gane, Aspinall, Blaydes are all nightmare matchups for him imo.

Gane is a physical specimen and I don't see how Jon does anything with him. Unless his TDD and grappling really are that bad, but from what I've seen, they're not. The Ngannou fight was not a true representation of Gane's grappling ability. He was gassed and Ngannou is the biggest physical freak we've ever seen in MMA. Jon struggled to take the likes of Anthony Smith down, and that was several years ago. Gane is just as big and probably naturally stronger than Jon.

Jon has gained a lot of weight and still has those matchstick legs. A couple of solid leg kicks from someone with the technique and power of Gane and it might be game over.

Why do you laugh at Ngannou taking down Gane? Did you forget he also looked great in wrestling against Stipe the second time...

It's like people forget Ngannou was a haymaking machine and only trained properly after his loss to Stipe, he has the most potential out of any fighter. Period

Jones wins this. He is the GOAT for a reason.

Gane has the advantage on the feet if it stays a kickboxing matchโ€ฆโ€ฆ and thatโ€™s about it. Even with that advantage, Jones is too smart to keep it there. And honestly, Gane is FAR from a smart fighter based off the Francis and Tuivasa fights.

I donโ€™t feel the size / age / ring rust arguments will mean much. He was already a big LHW, and put the weight on slowly. This also means he hasnโ€™t had to destroy his body with cutting down to 205 the last 3 years. Jones is only 35, and HWโ€™s are able to fight at the highest level much later in their careers. No top 5 HWโ€™s are below 30 years old (Iโ€™m including Jones in the top 5). Only 3 guys in the top 11 are under 30, and those 3 are 29 / 29 / 28. Jon is younger than Francis and Stipe, same as Usman, 2 years older than Izzy, and only 3 years older than Gane. And Jon is simply too smart / great to be effected by ring rust. Ring rust / extended layoffs are historically meaningless for GOATs in basically every sport.

Jones has the advantage on the feet if it is a dirty boxing and pressed / clinched against the cage.

Jones has the advantage on the ground.

Most importantly, Jones has a MASSIVE advantage in both the experience and fight IQ categories.

I'm not saying ngannou's a total slouch but he's no wrestling expert. The grappling exchanges he had with gane were low level

My point is jones will be the better wrestler hands down imo. Gane's striking is good, but Jones has a lot of weapons. Jones wrestled NCAA and will be close to the same size as Gane. Gane is from France (no wrestling) and got schooled by a non-wrestler Ngannou

Im favoring Jones in the fight, 60/40 in favor of him

There's a lot of questions unanswered about Jones comeback but this is my take for now

Ngannou went from being dominated by Stipe to throwing him around like a ragdoll. Gane is also a very quick learner who became one of the best strikers only training in his early 20s. I'm sure he's been drilling grappling, not that he was ever terrible at it. Dude submitted a black belt in his UFC debut.

I think the most important factor is that Jones isn't some pure wrestler like Khabib, he's a mixed martial artist who always got his takedowns by dominating the striking department. Example is when he took DC down, if it was an actual wrestling match he wouldn't have a chance, but with the striking skills he forces them to give up ground.

That won't work if Gane is dominating on the feet. He won't have that same advantage

I think it's still a close fight but seems like the more I look into it the more I favour Gane.

Mma is a crazy sport. A lot of things can happen

Jones is the GOAT of mma but nobody stays on top forever. Especially when they're trying to reach a new height toward the end of their career

.
Jones never had a hard time making 205, he's a natural LHW. Ciryl Gane couldn't make LHW if he wanted to. Guy is the size he is by doing pushups, compared to Jones who got there by powerlifting.

That's not a small advantage though, that's a huge advantage. Having a striking advantage is what leads to his takedowns, the only exception is the Reyes fights, and that wasn't a good fight for Jones.

This is true but only because of the takedown threat, Ganes roots are muay Thai but he'll keep distance in this fight.
Most importantly, Jones has a MASSIVE advantage in both the experience and fight IQ categories.
Jones has zero experience fighting in heavyweight, and even counting his experience he's not an active fighter anymore. but I do agree he has the better fight IQ.

Yeah man, it's gonna be a good fight regardless. I'm not underestimating Gane but I learned not to count out Jones a long time ago

I did too many times earlier in his career lol. He proved me wrong a lot

It all comes down to what kind of shape Jones is in.

On paper, Jones is a horrible matchup for Gane. Gane's game is being a super-mobile, athletic striker who literally runs circles around the big Lewis and Tuivasa type sluggers. As far as we've seen, his ground game is nearly nonexistent. JBJ is one of the few big men who's fast enough to move with him, and he's an elite grappler as well.

If Gane faced JBJ in his prime, JBJ would pin him to the ground and literally assfuk him in front of 1M PPV buyers. Ded srs. BRB decision by booty submission.

But if Jones fights like a tired, bloatmaxxed, drug addled 35yo, and Gane shows up ready to roll, Gane will win easy. It's all about how much gas Bones has left in the tank.

If it's old school Jones. Jones wins.

I'm not sure exactly what happened with the last few fights. I need to see those again. But Jones was one of the most vicious fighters. The slamming elbows from up top on Shogun. The covering of Shoguns mouth Tearing at Glovers shoulders. Fully sunk in guillotine on Lyoto Machida.

Jones fight dirty. He's a d**k.

Old school Jones... Bro he dominated Anthony Smith then not long after looked beatable against Santos/Reyes. He didn't suddenly become worse in a matter of months

Old Jon Jones would get whooped by Gane, he's probably better than ever before from working on his striking. But I guess that's what people are going to say if he loses

Jon Jones changed the game up, people learned from watching his fights. He never got worse, people became better.

After thinking about it a bit more, and getting sucked in by the hype, if anyone can come back after 3 years in a weight class above against the best guy in the world and win, it's this mf.

Jon is the legit GOAT and it's definitely true that he needs a real challenge to put on his best performances. We saw that in the first Gus fight. It was one of the greatest fights ever but it was only because Jon barely trained and completely overlooked him. His last few performances at 205 might've been a similar situation. The names he fought were hardly much to get excited about. Another example is OSP. He looked pretty bad in that fight and then came back a year later and demolished DC.

It would be epic to see him come back and win the HW belt. I still believe he is gonna look fat, old and slow though. He might only be 35 but he has a huge amount of mileage on his body.

Either way, can't wait. Fuarrk.

Anderson lost to Weidman, Fedor got destroyed by Werdum and Bigfoot. The one and only true GOAT is father time.

I favour Gane and I think Jones' time is probably over now but I'd never write Jones off or be surprised if he pulls it off.

He's one of the few fighters where I think the "not being motivated" isn't actually an excuse but it's simply true. Look how he completely dismantled Gus in the rematch.

intentionally bulking and moving up weight most of the time doesn't work out well. Some like GSP were able to pull it off (great matchup). Hope jones doesn't look slow or gas from the bulk.

i'd bet on the natural heavyweight who has been active, but if jones wrestles him jones wins, gane wrestling is weak.

Jones is the GOAT imo (GSP or Silva it's close but I think Jones edges them).
Does he have that alarming reach advantage anymore? JJ was a lot bigger than most opponents early. As the sport became bigger so did athletes. Look at GSP, he would be tiny compared to Usman et al. Jones started to struggle when guys were his size. he never was a power hitter either.

Hard to go against the goat but I feel like his LHW success has little to no bearing for saturday.

bumping jones back up a bit. Despite the negatives, I'm really factoring in how hard he should be training for this fight, example is the Gustafson rematch. I feel like he would have starched Reyes in a rematch too

I still have Gane to win, but I think it'll be a close decision. A very close fight. I think utilizing the fence will be key for Jones
