Just looked at my spending categories for 1 month:

$1500 on groceries/eating out


Anyone else do the same?

Easily my cheapest day is $40 and go out to semi nice restaurants regularly. Just started cooking again so it’ll probably be a little cheaper even with good quality food

I spend a lot more than that in a couple of weeks if I stay away from expensive restaurants.

I also go weeks on much less, like canned food and frozen chit I have saved up. Really depends on whether I feel it’s a good time to be frugal.

Hellofresh or Everyplate for 2 weeks worth of meals comes out to $300 or less I believe.

Couple that with some small trips for other items. I would say it comes out to roughly $500.

I try not to eat out because the food sucks and the portions are smaller which is understandable.

Hamburgers.

85% lean patties: $1.46. The kind I get is a little more expensive though compared to just buying straight up 85% ground beef by the pound. I like the pre-made stuff for convenience.

Hamburger bun: $0.25. Just checked this. I get 16 ct buns for $4.

Cheese: $0.114 per slice. I buy 96 count for $11.

2 Burgers fill me up. So that's $3.63. Before taxes, $3.85 after taxes. Again though, my patties would be cheaper if I stepped it up. Walmart sells 85% lean patties for $1.15 each, so it would decrease to $3.25 if I switched to that though, and yes I like them lol.

Hot dogs are even better.

$0.25 per hotdog (I get bun length chicken "great dogs" 40% reduced fat). $0.25 per hot dog bun (16 ct for $4). And instead of using cheese slices I drizzle some seasoning and a little cheese flakes on them. Takes 3 hot dogs to fill me up. That's only $1.50 pre-tax, plus whatever amount equates in seasoning/cheese drizzle. This is 720 Calories + seasonings/cheese if applicable.

That's $0.002/Cal. Most restaurants are closer to $0.015+ per Cal, unless you get the cheap unhealthy fatty greasy carby stuff.

I spend about $700 a month on groceries and $500 a month on eating out, for a family of 4. That used to be <$1K/month before COVID, rip.

You can buy 4 lb. of chicken for $10 and two packs of 8 buns for 5 dollars

brb 16 grilled chicken sandwiches for $15, get some veggies and you have like 8-12 meals for $20.

a lb. of ground beef, box of spaghetti, and jar of marinara is probably <$10 and would make a good 3-4 meals.

2 lb. of turkey, some cheap stir fry veggies and a bag of rice might be $15 and would probably net you 4-5 meals.

a lb. of pork chops and 2-3 sweet potatoes is <$10 and would get you 2-3 meals.


Bro there's loads of solid meals for $2-5 per serving (legit servings, not single servings of each)

There's loads of meals you can eat for $2 from the grocery store.

Started growing my own fruits and vegetables a while back and that helps, also get meat directly from butcher plus hunt and fish as often as i can, keeps it down quite a bit and 100x healthier

One great thing about being In the tropics/subtropics is shiit grows year round with little effort or interruptions

Yeah easily especially going out to eat and treating friends and family. I don't buy low quality food when I go grocery. Treat urself don't cheat urself

Hell no. I can cook and I take great pride in my food budgeting skills.

I cook 100% of my meals and li9ke to keep them all under $2 a serving.

Just now I had chicken breast tostadas with lentils, guac, salsa. Side of fried potatoes and veggies. Delicious.

The breast cost me about $2 and will go for 3 meals. That was the most expensive component.

Just takes a calculator and a bit of figuring to eat great for cheap.

Wife and I cook all our meals but groceries still around 1k/mo. Literally never get takeout

we eat a lot of red meat and only buy grass-fed/organic

Spend between $1300-$1500 on my credit card bill every month but that's including more than just food. If I had to estimate I'd say food is $800-$1000 of that bill.
