Toyota Corolla GR, what’s the deal?
Toyota is upping production due to demand. I read the mags and it’s not doing performance wise what Toyota is saying. It’s a 5 sec car 0-60, 13 sec 1/4@103-5ish. Not bad but not great either. You can spec out a decent one for 40k.
Has anyone tested the limits of the motor? It’s already at 25psi on the stock turbo.
I was interested but not at 13 sec@105 performance.

The deal is it offers fun fukkin times outside of doing 1/4 mile runs...if drag racing is your bag there are way better cars to consider.

The deal is you can do chit like this with it, if you got skills. everything is not about power and straight line performance.
I have a gr yaris, If the corolla is anything like it, it would be a blast on some tight twisties. I had a corvette before, which was great but it was too much for backroad driving.

Lol at shopping a $40K AWD hot hatch with Toyota reliability, but then not being happy with 5 second 0-60 and 13 sec 1/4 @ 105. That’s still fast for a hot hatch, and straight line isn’t what they are made for anyhow.
Besides, Motorsport Iron Triangle still rules. Cheap, fast, reliable…. pick 2.

The styling is very bad. I prefer the plain aesthetic of a GTI.

its completely retarded imo. Just saying.
Just get a used fiesta ST and be done with it. The AWD of to corrolla is doing nothing for the platform; its pretending to be wrc inspired.

For us north eastern folk awd is a pretty big deal. It used to snow here alot before the planet started burning.
It's a hot hatch bro, they are basically extinct in America. No one is claiming it's a powerful car. It's just a fun daily driver type car that still offers manual and the practicality of having a hatch. Tons of car reviewers loved the gr Carolla when they drove it.
I think it's great Toyota brought in another car for that market. It's not marketed to replace V8 torque monsters, it's there to compete with things like the wrx, s3, golf r, etc.

The gr cars are great out of the box. You don’t need to modify it to have a great fun car.
Another reason to get this is the cost of consumables. I’m not made of money and don’t want to spend 2 grand on tires twice a year, which is what you will be spending if you drive a vette with pilot ss year
round them 285s and 335s aren’t cheap.
With these cars you can get amazing grippy tires and an awd system. Tires are only around 140 each iirc, I haven’t had to change mine yet because in Europe you have to switch to winter tires in the winter

This motor is stupidly overbuilt as well, ausssies have been making a **** ton horsepower in the yaris GR (same motor)
Another solid car is the new wrx even tho its ugly as sin, tuner in Northwest stimickey has been making 400+whp. But I'm thinking the GR will still be more fun to drive

we are very lucky to even get this car in the USA. Toyota sees alot of demand for it. Its a factory track based car. Everything on it is overbuilt in mind with Toyota reliability. This is one for the keeps son.
